I want to start this by saying I've been going to hana for years multiple times a month and order substantial amounts of food (and regularly tip up to 50% to our wait staff). The last few times we've been in, it's been different. The young man that is on the wait staff regularly makes mistakes and rushes everyone out of his tables. He's not polite nor attentive to simple things such as additional drinks, etc. The older woman on the wait staff is the only reason we continue to go. She is one of the sweetest, most authentic people you could meet. My son adores her and she regularly will chat with us and compliment his manners. She is amazing, they need more of her.
Today, we were going to a dinner with some family and put in an online order at 130 for a pickup at 4. I walked in right at 4 with my 9 year old waiting curbsifr in the car. I was told it would "be a few minutes" because they close from 3pm to 4pm for break. I watched them start adding things to my bag on the table, then other bags.... I watched other patrons come in, place to-go orders, and leave with their orders while I was still waiting for mine (which consisted of a few apps and 3 dinners). Other patrons came and picked up orders, tables were served and I was still standing. 35 minutes after my scheduled pickup time of 4 I was finally given my order. No offer for any reimbursement (though I had paid my bill and tipped upon arrival). If I hadn't already paid, I would have left.
I did ask why I was able to select a pickup time they could not complete by. I did ask why I hadn't been notified it was not possible. I did ask why everyone else was getting their orders and I was not. Alas, there were no answers.
I called to speak to a manager. I was put on hold and promptly hung up on. I called back and was offered a "20 dollar credit". I was very candid of often we are in and how disappointed I was. I did say I would be leaving reviews. And I did say a $20 credit would not compensate for something nearly 40 minutes late (soggy food, nothing hot, and items that had been sitting bagged for over 30 minutes as they sporadically would being an item or 2 out every 10 or so minutes). I indicated that experience would justify a free order and also explained I paid in cash so no credit was even possible- acknowledgement and correction was. Instead they tried to tell me I had my order in 25 minutes. Unfortunately, I had the calls logged in my phone from when I walked out, when I called to apologize for being so late with dinner and when I arrived on my phone. There is no miscommunication about time and invited them to check their cameras because April was incorrect or her clock was wrong. Lilly, the manager who left me a voicemail after my review posted, was supposedly not at the resturaunt the evening of the event but was calling from the resturaunt number. Very ironic and in poor taste. Passify and move along.
Completely unacceptable customer service, poor food practice and really disappointing. They are the only place in the area with decent Asian food-- they don't have competition (their food isnt even great its just not terrible like some others). Gray has far better options and is worth the drive to avoid this in the future as I will never, and would never, recommend this kind of service/post service/poor quality food. There were ample opportunities to avoid this scenario and none happened to prevent, or rectify, this experience. It's incredibly sad how far down hill...
Read moreFirst thing walking in, we noticed I r was freezing inside. Everyone that came in said the same thing. We sat down and the waiter came over. He seemed to be in a hurry to get our order. My husband ordered a drink and the waiter went and made it as there was no bartender. Then again, we felt rushed to make a decision. Having never been here before I was unsure of what to get. I am used to Chinese food not Japanese except for hibachi. Anyway, i ordered crab Rangoon, which was delicious! I also ordered general tso's chicken which I thought was terrible. I also ordered chicken fried rice because everything comes with white rice which i.am not big on. The fried rice was ok. Then I ordered salt and pepper chicken which the waiter informed me was not wings, just chicken. We wanted wings but apparently Japanese does not have wings. We got the chicken and for me, it was totally inedible along with the general tso's chicken. The salt and pepper chicken was very smoky. Tasted like a combination of really bad oil cooked at a very high heat.so that horrible taste came through.so all I ate was crab Rangoon and a little fried rice. I could not eat either of the chicken dishes. The general tso's was not like the kind you would fund in a Chinese restaurant. It did not have that delicious sweet/hot sauce over nice, slightly crunchy chicken that I am used to. My husband ordered chicken and broccoli that he said was totally bland. All in all, the prices were ok. BTW, I also got miso soup. First time having it so I don't know what it is supposed to taste like. To me, it was extremely fishy tasting and once again, could not eat it. Bottom line, I would not want to go back...
Read moreGreat the first time. Second visit not as great. Our family first visited Hana shortly after it opened, prior to its June 1st Grand Opening. Our visit was on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was not crowded. Our kids enjoyed their sushi while my wife enjoyed the vegetable and chicken tempura. I ordered the teriyaki salmon bento box. The food was delicious all around. The atmosphere was clean and inviting, and the service was attentive and friendly. In all, we were thrilled to have found a new asian cuisine option in Windham that offered both delicious food and comfortable ambiance. So, we decided to return a few weeks after our initial visit and after the Grand Opening. This day was also a Sunday. The first thing we noticed was that our server wasn't nearly as attentive as the young lady who waited on us the first time. We were informed that lunch specials were no longer offered on Sunday. According to the website, most days Hana is open for lunch from opening to 3:00PM. After 3:00 it's the dinner menu only. Sundays, however, offer no lunch option. Dinner only. This must have been a new development after the first few weeks. We also found that the drink menu was limited on this Sunday. My wife ordered a virgin Pina Colada, as offered on the menu, only to be told it was unavailable because there was nobody working the bar. The food was still very good and a step above the typical asian fare found around Windham. We just wish the service this trip was more friendly and attentive, and that there were lunch specials available on Sunday. We'll be back to Hana, but probably not very soon, and definitely not...
