Portland Pie Company — Restaurant in Windham

I may rethink how I assign stars to my reviews after getting dinner here for the first time. I have given 5 stars to some of my reviews that should be 4 stars as compared to this establishment. I really need to reserve a 5 star rating for places similar to this one. I have gotten food dining in, delivered and pickup over the years. This time I used pickup and glad I did because I would not have been aware that this place was packed with people in keeping with the State mandates in place. This is the first time I have gotten food here wether eat in, delivered, or pickup. It was Friday in lent so we opted for a non meat pizza option and glad we did. We ordered a 14” thin basil crust with red sauce, 3 cheese, roasted red peppers, caramelized onion and spinach toppings. First of all absolutely delicious! I haven’t had a pizza this good in many years from local or big chain pizzerias. I love the caramelized onions vs just adding raw onions as most places do. The flavor you get from these and the roasted red peppers was amazing! I loved the basil thin crust that was so good and cooked to golden brown perfection. There was two of us and we just killed that whole pizza in no time flat and I told my wife wow I could have eaten more of that it’s so good. I have always heard people comment on the Portland Pie but I never had tried it. The other pizza places can’t even compare to the taste of these pies! The other pies we have had are your really average tasting crusts and toppings. Windham has lost some pizza places to closure and other ones in southern maine. I would say this place moves right into number 1 in the southern Maine area. The pizza is that good! I had not been inside this Pizzeria since they remodeled an existing building and added a quite sizable nicely fenced in outdoor patio area with a large quantity of wooden picnic tables. The inside was very nicely done and all the tables and bar were filled when I went in for my pickup. The takeout business was also pretty robust! I highly recommend this pizzeria when your in the lakes region and beyond. We will be ordering from here again definitely in the future. This is worth a try for some...

so I don’t normally do this, but as someone who worked in the industry I figured I should share my experience tonight at Portland Pie Windham 🤷🏻‍♀️

tonight my family and I got 4 pizzas from Portland Pie. the pizzas were good, however the service was not.

normally, I’d let it go considering everyone has their bad days. the restaurant was full and the servers were busy - but hours later I’m still really upset about our experience.

my sister ordered the pizzas over the phone and was spoken to rudely. we could have let that go.... but going in was awful.

my other sister and I went in to grab the pizzas. granted we made the mistake of not asking whos name Janine put the pizza under - there was a few it could be under. we told the hostesses a few names and they told us to go to the bar we could pay over there. this is all fine.

we got to the bar and a man asked me what my name was. it was loud in the restaurant and I have a hard time hearing with other noises happening around me - I only heard “name”. I responded with “I’m not sure”... I was going to continue with the names that it could be under, however I was cut off by this man rudely stating “what, you don’t know your name??” I was taken aback and before I could respond, he said “do you need to call your parents???” STILL taken aback... I said, “no, it might be under Smith but we’re not sure” he said he would see if he could find the order. he came back out with an order, and it wasn’t the 4 pizzas we ordered - in the time that he was out back finding that order we had sorted out that it was under my dad’s name instead of his girlfriends. When he was told that wasn’t the right order, he said “I thought it was under smith but it was another Paul huh” then said he would go out back and “try to find our order”. finally he came out with the correct order and said “oh so you’re all paid up? have a great night”

I think it’s truly unprofessional and blatantly rude. This restaurant was full and I was being spoken down to in front of many people at the bar. He wasn’t joking, there was no laughing, and it was not okay. Needless to say we won’t be returning...

I’ve been impressed with the Portland pie co overall , at least until I went in yesterday. The Alfredo had no sauce reduction , it was just melted cheese over ziti so I sent it back to the kitchen after realizing the disappointment just to wait and watch my lunch partner enjoy his sandwich ( it was the portlander and looked excellent) so, after the half hr wait while watching three hostesses bubble around the place my meal came back out with compliments from the staff about how good it looked and it that it was steaming lol. It was just a bad experience I wish I didn’t have because I like the place,. It looks great but I was holding the pace to a higher expectation.

6/9/2021 I’ve returned to PORTLAND PIE COMPANY and I’m eating the same meal I ordered last time ( I’m a glutton for punishment lol) and it’s AMAZING ! IM SO HAPPY THE OWNER took the time to respond ( even though I’m just now seeing they did , as I’m eating here again, looking back at my review and seeing that they did respond. )

This time around it’s like it has been the other times I’ve been here ! Idk maybe it was a off day last time or something. All I know is the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It’s constructive criticism and it works! Kudos PORTLAND PIE! I will be changing my star rating to represent what I...
