A Taste of Paradise in Windsor Heights! Last night, I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Puerto Rico Restaurant in Windsor Heights, and I can't stop raving about it! From the moment I walked in, the mellow atmosphere and excellent service made me feel right at home. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, even joining in to sing "Happy Birthday" with us at our table, which just added to the fun and enjoyable vibe. I started with the Trio Mix, which was a perfect introduction to their delicious offerings. The alcapurrias were a definite highlight – so good! Filled with savory beef, the yucca had a wonderfully satisfying chew, making them easily the best appetizer. The empanadas were also very good, and I'm already planning to try the pizza ones next time. And those sorullitos de maiz? Simple, delicious little corn fritters that were a perfect snack. I also enjoyed the rellenos de papa, which offered the same tasty beef filling as the alcapurrias and empanadas, but in a soft, flavorful potato pocket. For my main course, the beef steak sandwich was incredibly tasty with great flavor. I also loved the tostones – a delicious and interesting alternative to traditional French fries. The sauce they serve with them makes it palatable for anyone. The mofongo was another standout; a flavorful, chunky mashed potato like dish packed with garlic – absolutely delicious! And the chicharrones de pollo were phenomenal. They were meaty on the inside with a super crisp, crunchy breading that really set them apart. Don't forget to try the passion fruit juice; it was so refreshing. Now, let's talk about dessert. The vanilla flan was nothing short of amazing, and what makes it even more special is that it's homemade by the server herself! It's dangerously good, and I honestly haven't stopped thinking about it. She also makes other incredible pastries with guava and cheese fillings, among other varieties, all of which were just amazingly good. I can't wait to go back and try the Cuban sandwich and the pasta salad. This is truly a must-visit spot in Windsor Heights for authentic and incredibly flavorful Puerto Rican cuisine. Highly,...
Read moreMy wife and I were very excited to give this restaurant a try, but left disappointed and will not be back. Our visit was on 7/14 at approximately 5:45 PM for dinner. The restaurant was about 2/3 full when we arrived and were were not greeted by any employees and were unsure if we seat ourselves or if we were supposed to be seated. Once we got the attention of one of the employees, we were seated. We ordered our beverages (no alcohol at this point as they are still working on getting their liquor license). When we started to order or food, we all wanted to try the Pernil. We were told at that time by the waitress that "I am sorry, we are out of Pernil". Well, you only have 3 meats to choose from in the first place. This would have been key information that should have been provided from the start as soon as we were seated.
Once our orders were placed, it took approximately 35-40 minutes to receive "some" of our food. My wife and friend received their sandwiches but I was told mine would be out shortly. 10 minutes later while my wife and friend had almost finished, my Cuban sandwich finally arrived. To my amazement, the Cuban which according to the menu has "Pork Roast, Deli Ham, Pickles and Mustard". The sandwich did not have any ham on it and it barely had enough mustard to even taste any at all. At this point we were unhappy and just wanted to get out of there so we did not complain to anyone about the food mistakes.
I know this place is new, but the lack of consistency/care make it forgettable. Will...
Read moreWas very disappointed. The wait was awful, service was poor and the food wasn't very good. The waitress would always run off after the first thing I requested and never let me finish ordering. I was going to get 3 appetizers but I was only allowed to order one because she ran off. Frequently all 3-4 of the waitresses would completely disappear and even tables around me were getting very roudy from this. The shrimp I had was overcooked and rubbery, and was hardly cleaned with many still having legs attached. The pork my SO ordered was very dry. Then after the bill finally got dropped off we waited another 20 minutes just for a waitress to come and grab our card so we could pay. A whole family of 5 came in after us, and left before us, even they complained about the wait but with how much longer we had been there we just wanted a waitress to come and let us pay so we could leave. I will not be...
