I gave this 2.5 stars.
Cons: (1) I ordered a small brown stew chicken and essentially got two, large chicken wing style drumsticks. Smallish drumsticks you would see in a chicken wing order but with about 50% more meat on them. Not the regular sized chicken drumsticks. (2) This small sized order came in a black, styrofoam box that you would use for a burger or sandwich. I've been to over 100 Jamaican or Caribbean restaurants. This was a portion you would get for a $5.99 lunch special at most places. I paid $10.29 total! (3) Airport price. You know how you go off a highway exit and see a gas station but then drive down the street 1 or 2 blocks and see gas for 10 or more cents cheaper? Well, this is similar. People from all over the country staying at the nearby hotels want some kind of ethnic food other than Asian or Indian. They see this and jump on it. When you're away from home and have extra money, you don't mind spending it so that's what they're capitalizing on.
Pros: (1) Brown stew chicken was fall off the bone and delicious. (2) At least the place was clean and the server was friendly.
Overall: The portion size doesn't add up to what you have to pay. 15 minutes away in Hartford is Benjie's. Some may not like the location and mostly brown faces but I pay a dollar more for a medium brown stew chicken there and it is LITERALLY 3x this portion, not to...
Read moreThe first time eating at the Jamaican Kitchen the food was very good at one point. This restaurant has been there less than six months as of 8/15/2021 and I’m very disappointed at this point to where I no longer eat from there. The excitement of seeing more variety of different cultural foods in my area was and is humbling. My last straw is when I had the jerk chicken the chicken wasn’t fresh and my beef patty was over cooked. I spoke honestly to the cashier last month and told her about the food. Please get it together I don’t know if you have to many different cooks or what!!!!! If you think some people don’t know good Jamaican food in this area your mistakenly Wrong!!! Windsor Locks is a beautiful town rich in diversity and culture of different backgrounds we welcome all. Whoever is the owner please take my review with the most Sincere honesty and deepest respect please. I would love to be able to come back in and enjoy real true Good Jamaican...
Read moreToo excited to have found this restaurant ever since I came from NY it’s been hard to find some great authentic JA food! I picked this location to review because it is by far my favorite to go to. The food is amazing I love my Escovitch fish made fresh to order every time! It’s amazing, either way bathrooms stay super clean I almost sat on the seat and I don’t sit on public seats 😒 😅. Music is great, vibe is great and the art work on the wall is super beautiful and also for sale 😊Besides that there are some wonderful people who work there. They will offer a sample which works out well if you never tried the food before. My first time going there I met this nice girl her service was great. She recommended something tasty… carrot fried dumpling (hope I got that right)….but it was amazing. This is a very friendly location and always worth the drive. Btw the stew chicken definitely...
