I'm a pretty harsh critic, so I was really surprised at how good Doro is. And the fact that my husband and I stop in almost every week. It's like the best parts of panera and starbucks, but in a smaller, local business you can feel good about!
Someone complained about the price, and while it isn't cheap, I'd say it's in line with other similar establishments and coffee shop chains, with most basic pastries costing around $5.
We're not coffee drinkers, so I can't speak to their brews, but their matcha lattes are GREAT, especially the specialty flavors! Hands-down the best thing they sell are their pastries, which appear to be made fresh in house. The selection varies daily, and it's exciting to get to try new things-- even if it isn't to my taste, I have yet to have a bad pastry here. Our favorites are the red velvet croissant, the vol au vent pastry, the ham and cheese croissants, and the large stuffed donuts. Their boba lemonade is also pretty good! We love grabbing their pizza slices, which they have most days. They're delicious, bready, and really filling for around $6 dollars.
Sometimes service can be slow-- Doro is almost always busy, even at "off-peak" times-- and so more complex dishes and meals can take a bit of time to come out of the kitchen. In general, the staff is really good and friendly, though of course, not everyone is on the same level and mistakes do get made. Still, on average I'd say the staff here is MUCH better than say, McDonalds or the grocery store. A lot of them seem to like working here, which makes me happy.
I love coming here. I love that it's so close and I love the open and bright atmosphere. It's a nice place to sit and eat a light breakfast, and when we have visitors I plan on bringing them here!
My three suggestions for the owner are:
Keep the dougie [a pizza dough croissant with olive oil] with the savory items on the right of the counter instead of with the sweeter pastries on the left to avoid confusion.
Consider putting a listing online of the pastries on offer that day so regulars know what might be there and what definitely won't be!
It might be hard to do, but I'd love to see more non-coffee special...
This was my 2nd time at Doro Market Place in Windsor Ct. We absolutely love the place and the food. Yesterday November 5th @ 6pm my wife and I arrived at Doro for dinner. We ordered a full size freebird chicken w/2 sides and a Dragon Fruit Mango refresher. We sat down and minutes later the waitress brought us half a chicken. We explained to her that we had ordered a full size chicken and she quickly apologized and stated, I'll be back with another half of chicken. As we began to eat our first half of chicken, it was cold and luke warm on different parts of it. My wife then went to the front and she explained to our waitress that the chicken was cold and luke warm on certain parts. This same waitress apologized again and then walked over to our table. She then stated sorry about that and for the inconvenience she told us to keep the half bird and take it home and even pointed out where the take out containers were. The waitress then stated "I'll make you a full bird and the two sides now". We then stated ok. Again minutes later a different waitress came over to our table with another half bird and no sides. We again explained to her we had ordered a full size free bird with two sides and she quickly stated "Well you have the other half right there" and pointed at the one we were told to take home because it was cold. We then told her that was the one that was cold and she quickly took the cold one away and gave us the other half she brought and walked away. At this point we were very upset that two waitresses couldn't figure out a single order and get it right. Believe it or not the second half bird that was brought to us was also cold and warm on certain spots. Be advised when the waitresses told the cook twice they needed a full bird, he appeared to be very upset. The 1st waitress was very professional and apologetic and the 2nd waitress who took the first half chicken back was very unpleasant. We love the Doro Market Place but they need to make it right for the customer and not challenging to get a good decent meal. For the record our table number was 16 and I'm also a registered rewards member....
Read moreThe food here is good, but the service is lacking. Iâm finally writing a review after the same thing has happened multiple times in a row:
Whenever I order take out, the majority of the time, I either get incorrect things or something is missing. Today was the straw that broke the camelâs back that pushed me to finally write a review.
I ordered a caprese sandwich, and subbed in a croissant (extra $2) and added prosciutto (another extra $2).
However, when I got it, my sandwich did not have the prosciutto on it, so I basically wasted $2 for nothing. The receipt attached to the bag does have my sandwich described correctly though, so they were aware, but just forgot to add it.
The amount of times Iâve had orders wrong has led me to check my bag before leaving the store just to make sure everything is correct and included.
I had an inkling I should have done that today, but I was in a rush and didnât check this time.
In short, the food, when itâs correct and/or not missing, is great. But, I shouldnât need to double check my order every single time I pick up. I donât want to be seen as a Karen who has to nitpick every pick up order, so I think Iâm just going to have to start getting...
