One Sentence Review: REACT offers the standard Escape Room experience at top-of-the-line premium prices.
We are escape room junkies and have explored a lot of the offerings in CT/Western MA and have our favorites, so we have higher expectations than some when it comes to escape rooms. We love an escape room that challenges us, surprises us, and makes us feel immersed in the story, and that's what we feel makes an excellent escape room.
We did the Sherlock Holmes room a year or so ago (it may have changed names since we visited) and felt it was a good middle-tier room with some solid puzzle designs, but we did not find it to be luxe or premium or especially remarkable. The facility/waiting room was what you'd expect from this kind of experience, and the staff were friendly and got the job done, but didn't leave an impression. The room itself definitely had some care put into it, but it felt like what it is-- a converted room in what used to be an office building. I did not feel transported or immersed in the story the puzzle makers were telling. Maybe other rooms are more involved, but this one just felt...ordinary.
Since it is our closest escape room, we've looked into going back several times for something to do, but we are always thrown off by their pricing, which is way higher than nearby competition, especially if you've got a smaller party. To date, it costs $99 to book a room for 2 people ($139 for weekends), with an additional $30 fee per person. This is probably great for people with tons of friends, but for us it is a steep price tag, and way too much for the quality of room we feel they offer, especially when local competitors offer a better experience at prices closer to $35 per person, regardless of party size or day of week.
Besides price I have no complaints against REACT Premium Escape Rooms and what they charge is their choice, but personally I'd recommend Mission Escape Games in West Hartford or Puzzled Escape Games in Easthampton, MA {if it ever reopens) over REACT for both quality of experience and...
Read more*UPDATE: They reached out to me and gave a credit to come back. I came back with my daughter, owner talked to me personally and acknowledged he had to fix some things and did. Then had a great experience in another room. Rare to see business owners acknowledge and improve. Thank you!!
Been here twice and have done probably 15 or so escape rooms. I want to say that the first time it was great doing the hungover games newer room!
Second time though, the guy running it clearly couldn't care less and the room had so many issues - you can't even see certain symbols because the sharpie is gone, black light ink was completely gone, the guy actually just ghosted us for 10 MINUTES completely unresponsive (nobody else was even there btw but us), and some of the puzzles were just illogical - at the end I asked the guy to come in and count something because he was giving pretty snotty advice via the computer ("count better") - and then he literally couldn't find the 7 things himself because there were only 6 lol. He was just annoyed we were there and the game was awful. The second room within the second game was literally an empty room with 1 thing in it. Seriously.
Overall, hungover games was super fun but the other room was absolutely horrible - and the host guy was terrible. What a bummer for such an expensive premium experience.
Hungover games room was a lot of fun. Hosts are likely hit or miss. Avoid the...
Read morePlayed this with my partner and four first timers that we didn't met until we arrived to the room. My partner and I have completed almost 30 escape rooms from New Hampshire to Miami. This is the only escape room we've played in central Connecticut that utilizes actual local history to establish the story line, and I love it. It's refreshing among the thousands of typical "missing doctor" or similar themes. We did the raiders room, which had a great storyline, was massive, and very immersive. The puzzles were high quality and fitting for the theme, with lots of technical and mechanical innovations, so it wasn't all locks. The room was non-linear, so we all had something to do at any given time. Everyone was able to contribute to significant portions of the room, and it made for a delightful experience. I would change the decor in the hallway from these great, but random, images to pictures that help play up Connecticut's history, since the story lines already do a great job focusing on it. Other than that, the experience was wonderful, thanks to our team and the excellent game master for helping facilitate this! We will...
