I wanted to share my experiences over the weekend with you. It started off checking in to a Candlewood Suites - purely out of necessity as there were a lack of rooms available in the location that I was. After check in - unpacking in my room - I received a call, email, and text from AMEX that I had just charged a $32,771 expense to my card going over my credit limit of $35,000. Immediately after speaking with AMEX, I went to the front desk. The GM refused to speak to me for three days even after two written requests, me having to yell for him as he was hiding in his office behind the front desk, and 1 verbal request directly to him. My card was locked and I couldn't use it. The charge remained on my account, and still does. I was presented this folio upon check out. The room rate should have been $118 a night. The GM had to work Night Audit the night I checked out - so he was forced to see me and present me the bill. He refused to provide the owners contact information - but I have it anyway as we do it all the time. I told him that I would be in contact with the owner and IHG later this week. While waiting for my delayed flight - he sent me instructions as to how I can work with AMEX to remove the charge and that he was comping me the three night stay, obviously so I wouldn't contact IHG or the owner. I had told him upon checking out, that I understand how mistakes happen in the Industry from Technology. That I was in the business, but his lack of attention to the customer was the most disturbing part of it. I had other cards to use - but the feeling of walking away from a $32,771 was very...
Read moreI am a Spire Elite member and always try different IHG properties when I can. Although I stay near BDL often when traveling to Hartford for business this was my first stay at this Candlewood property. I booked online through the IHG website and although I booked a King Suite I was given an "upgrade" to a Queen one bedroom due to the room I booked being unavailable. The room that I received was extremely messy, broken and worn furniture, dirty towels and general disrepair. In my 13 years as a loyal IHG member I don't recall a room in worse condition. I appreciate that suites can be a little higher traffic for longer term stays but certainly minimum standards for housekeeping and room condition must be met. The carpet had peanuts and small stones from the last guest which could obviously be very serious for someone with an allergy. The table had sticky mess dribbled across it and one of my face towels was literally stained grey. Furniture was very worn and some broken and a poorly repaired hole in the ceiling of the bathroom. Definitely did not want to take my shoes off! There are newly renovated options near BDL, I would not be back to this property on future visits. I very rarely give a negative review and always try to give the benefit of the doubt but there was just too much wrong with this visit and IHG should be doing a better job to take care of it's loyal...
Read moreWe arrived from out of town at 1:30 AM after our flight was delayed over 1.5 hours. Since it was after midnight, we Ubered to our hotel. When we arrived the desk clerk informed us that they did not have a room for us and had tried to call us earlier that afternoon. Both my boyfriend and I check our phones and e-mail and not calls or e-mails. The clerk just looked at us and when I inquired how they were going to fix this, she just stared. Might I add, this room had already been paid for! I then asked the clerk, who are you going to call to fix this. She called one of the Managers and after about 20 minutes they found us a room. We were relieved, until I opened the door to the room. The first thing I SMELLED was DOGS, an overwhelming smell. The room had the window open, cleaning supplies strewn all over the room. We went back down to the front desk and she called the manager again and said she found two other rooms. She walked us herself to the rooms, but both rooms were being used as storage, so we once again went down to the lobby and she found us another room. I guess the 4th time is a charm. By this time it was 2:15 am. We showered and jumped in bed, so relieved to get some sleep. If I could have left a no rating,...
