Second Poquonock Giant Grinder — Restaurant in Windsor Locks

Fantastic family run business. They are some of the kindest people I've ever met, and the food has always been delicious. When you want a giant grinder, this is THE place you need to come. It's what comes to mind when I think of a local place that does a proper grinder.

I feel I also have to share the story that brought me to find this place: Once when I was stuck at BDL airport during the height of COVID, they were one of the only people around and open that were able to get food to me. Everything in the airports and nearby was closed; my crew and I hadn't eaten all day, had been rerouted and delayed due to weather, running on 17 hours of no food and were desperate to eat; each of us texting each other from our isolation in the hotel rooms if we found a place open.

Due to a delivery error with UberEats messing up and cancelling my order several times with no explanation and many excuses, 2nd Poquonock came to the hotel on their own even though they only delivered thru delivery apps at that time and delivered my food for me. In addition, upon learning I was airline crew during the phone call trying to straighten the mess out, they sent extra food FREE OF CHARGE for the entire crew to make sure we could eat that night and have plenty of extra for the next two days of our trip. They fed my entire crew and I out of the goodness of their hearts, and I will never forget that since we had not eaten all day and were facing a night of not having eaten.

I will happily bring my business back every time and bring everyone else I know to this place. I am very happy to see they have emerged from the nightmare of the past two years of Covid shutdowns and are still kicking, and I can't wait to visit again soon and have another grinder on that...

Ordered an 18” and 8” roast beef grinders-no tomatoes-no lettuce as they are not fresh this time of year-no fresh peppers either as I’m allergic to them- asked for roasted red peppers-they never have them and no Swiss cheese either- same issue- never have it. The only grinder I’ve ever had worse than this was Subway. Roast beef dry overcooked and not much on either sandwich and tasted old/ at least a day old. I thought with all the deletions they would at least put some extra on the remaining items-no chance- the amount of roast beef besides being below acceptable quality was skimpy. One slice layer of provolone cheese on the rest of the sandwiches- very poor. Basically a bread sandwich. Can’t see going back and not like my prior orders over the past two years which were always good including roast beef grinders. Have no idea what is going on with this place but things have definitely changed...

We are home in CT for the holidays and staying at a nearby hotel. We needed a fast lunch that could be delivered. We ordered delivery using their online portal, "Slice," and it was a seamless, smooth experience from start to finish! We were able to order online and make changes/substitutions to what we wanted. Then, minutes later, it was delivered right to our hotel room door.

On to the food - AMAZING. We ordered a turkey grinder and added ham and jalapenos. The bread is light and fluffy. They pile on the meat and fixings. It's delicious! I ordered a baked chicken salad and there was a HUGE helping of chicken on top. It was a little dry but still very tasty. Because we're gluttons, we also got seasoned fries and I can not stop eating them.

Needless to say, this will be our new favorite for whenever we're back in...
