I would like to start by saying that this review is based only on my visit last night with my family. I have never had this kind of service at this location until last night
I was very unsatisfied with my visit. When we first walked in there was no host/hostess anywhere around for a good 2-3 minutes. Once the host finally came over we told him how many people we had and told him we needed 1 high chair. He then proceeded to seat us but never brought a high chair, therefore, I had to go get one for myself. We finally got situated and expected a waiter/waitress to be with us shortly, unfortunately we were wrong. We sat there for at least 10 minutes until my mother finally went to the take out counter and asked them a question regarding the 2 for Tuesday. They told her that the offer was only valid for dine in. She looked at them and said, "well, we are trying to done in but no one has even gotten our drink orders yet." They said that someone would be right with us, but they weren't. A young lady finally came over to our table about 20 minutes after being seated and very incencerly said she was sorry and took our drink orders. The manager (Travis White) then came over and was very apologetic and offered us a free appetizer and dessert for the trouble. We then received it drinks but never placed our food order. Our waitress (Nicole) walked by and said, "yep, already got your order and it's on the way." So we stopped her and informed her that we had not ordered our food yet, just drinks. So she took our orders and went to the back. Surprisingly, every thing was correct when she brought our food. After we finished our pizzas and asked for a box she said she would be right back with our check not even offering us the free dessert we had been promised. When she brought the check she said, "we took everything off for you so you should be good," but we weren't. The appetizer was still on the receipt and the 2 for Tuesday was not honored. I called the manager over and he immediately apologized again and fixed the issues.
Overall, my experience was down right awful and if that had been my first time here then I WOULD NOT GO BACK. BUT, as I have already said, I have never experienced this kind of service at this location before and, until last night, I have always been pleased with the service here. And the food was great as always.
I will go back BUT if the service is the same again then I will be done with Brixx as a whole.
I have attached a picture of the original check that was printed...
Read moreAs usual the service pretty much stunk, beginning with the hostess who just didn't want to be there. More about the service later. On to the food...Had a pimento cheese appetizer which was pretty good. I asked for more pita bread so I could finish the cheese and the waitress said, "Oh, you'd like a side order of pita bread?" Really? I did without. My son and his buddy had Shirley Temples to drink. Refills are free, so we asked for more. Well, it seems an ounce of grenadine qualifies as a bar drink so the refills were NOT free. Of course the waitress asked the boys, "How about a refill?" Naturally they said yes without considering the cost. Root beer, for some reason is a premium soft drink, too. ??? The boys had a meatball pizza that they enjoyed. Amazingly they were full after two slices. I had a green salad with onions, tomato and almonds tossed in a very good vinaigrette. Would have loved to have some pita bread or something with it without paying extra. Finally, I went to pay with my groupon ($18 value which I paid $9 for). A sign at the door informed me that an 18% gratuity would be added to the pre-groupon price of the meal. No big deal, but I prefer to decide how much I tip when we're a party of three. This place will nickel and dime you to death. With the $18 Groupon our bill was still $20 ($38 total if no Groupon) for one adult and two 11 year olds. Of course when the waitress brought back the MasterCard receipt for me to sign she didn't say anything about the tip being included. She didn't get any extra. A smile...ONE smile...might have earned her a couple extra bucks. In fact, we probably made contact with 7 or 8 employees, including a manager, and failed to receive a smile, hello, how's your food or a thank you. This is the second time I've been to this Brixx and I've received the same type of hospitality each time. First time was without a Groupon. I'll go back once more to use my last Groupon, but that's it. I regret I bought them. The food is not good enough or a good enough value to overcome the...
Read moreMy wife and I were looking for a great gluten-free option for Pizza in Winston-Salem. We'd tried Mellow Mushroom, but their gluten-free option is always a bit soggy in the middle. What we discovered was that both Brixx and Mellow Mushroom use the same gluten-free base, but Brixx puts it through the oven first and then adds the toppings, so that the pizza does not get soggy in the middle. For this reason, we like Brixx much better than Mellow Mushroom and prefer to drive there, even though we're right on top of MM in downtown Winston-Salem.
While some others posting reviews feel that the service was poor, I'd say that we've geen to Brixx about 10 or so times. While the waitstaff are certainly of a younger generation, I always find it refreshing that they all know the menu. They all are aware of the gluten-free options and can point out what's GF and what isn't. They are all as professional as I would expect them to be at their age and experience level. Sometimes, I go into some places where the waitstaff are at the same age/experience range and they are forgetful or aren't critical thinkers who can think for themselves. But, at Brixx, it seems all the young people who work there are very good at what they do. They are trained well and we've always had a good experience with them.
Lastly, every single time we are there, the manager - I don't know his name - checks in on us to make sure we have everything we need. I can't imagine that if he checks in on us every single time, that he doesn't do that for others. He doesn't know us and maybe recognizes us now, but it's not like he's doing it because we come in frequently - maybe once a month, but because he genuinely wants to make sure we get what we asked for.
We've never, ever had a problem with ordering and receiving our pizzas or other orders. They have always been on time, fresh...
