Crafty Crab — Restaurant in Winston-Salem

I wasn’t going to leave a review at first, but I actually have to. A ROACH WAS IN MY SEAFOOD BOIL. I had already started eating 🤮….I had a little crab, a little corn, a little potato and then a little shrimp. After I ate some shrimp, I started peeling ALL the shrimp to drop them in the sauce. After peeling about 5/6 shrimp, the last shrimp I picked up had a roach fall from it into the juice….I immediately told my friend what happened and she said “naaaah can’t be….maybe it’s a shrimp tail or something 😳” to make me feel better….that’s when I picked it up with a fork and transferred it to a papertowel…absolutely a roach!!! And it was cookkkked! The body fell off the boneeee! 😭 I took it to our server who was up front and she quickly took it to her manager. (I really appreciate the server, she was actually great) The manager came around the corner fast from the kitchen, stopped at our table, and all she said was “I can remake it for you?” HUH GIRL WHO?!? In what l world would it make sense to remake this knowing you have roaches in the back DANCIN in the shrimp?!?! 🤨.….thats what I should have said. But to avoid making a COMPLETE SCENE like my momma would have….. I simply looked at my friend and told her “….no I don’t want anything else….” the manager just looked at us confused as if we were supposed to just take that offer. Absolutely no apology…and I’m sure there’s been no resolution to her pest problem as this was 2 days ago. Only reason I didn’t post it then is because I got side tracked while typing this long review and the page refreshed….but I remembered today and HAD to post this before they opened….this experience did it for me ….Horrible. Never again. And now that I’m seeing the past reviews and that their health rating was in the 70s just last year and on the way out I saw it was a 91 now they honestly should be closing. No doubt about that. Me and my friend were so excited to try this place out because I’ve been in Winston almost a year and we really wanted a crab boil.…big mistake coming to this place. I need to update this review for my most recent visit on 11/8/2024.

The food was still immensely great. Yet again, everything was cooked perfectly. I ordered a mojito and was really disappointed. It wouldn't have been a big deal, normally, but I feel like it needs to be expressed with the quality of service I received. It hadn't even been garnished properly, and for $10 for a drink, I didn't think a sprig of mint leaves would have been a big deal. It took nearly 10 minutes to get my drink order taken. At my time of arrival, there were 2 other small tables and one large party. I was brought my mojito and my sweet tea almost at the same time (sweet tea shortly before the other) and besides having my food dropped off to my table after the drinks, I wasn't checked on again the whole night until I had already finished my drinks and my food. I had to stretch my sweet tea because otherwise I wouldn't have had anything to drink with my order. When I was finally ready to pay (after about an hour of being there) I had asked for a tea to go and was brought the check, then the tea, and the check had been left on my table in front of me with my payment ready for at least another 5 minutes before I was asked if the check was ready to be picked up. I typically try to give some lee-way on busier nights but last night was just poor. It's gonna take some thought...

This place was a huge disappointment. I know this is a chain restaurant but obviously it is a franchise, who owners are trying to save money by cutting corners but has lost a customer for life. Where I live, we have no Crafty Crab around so Red Crab is our go to spot but since I was out of town, my family and I decided to give Crafty a try. Mistake. First impression.. it was dead inside(clue) no prices on menu for their boils(clue) portions are small and the potatoes were hideous, two extremely small fifty cent size pieces potatoes(I wish I was kidding) the sauce had no heat at all and I ordered medium also it did not taste like a seafood boil should. I go to Red Crab and ALWAYS come out with a to go bag. Not at this place. Portions are SMALL!! And the prices are ridiculous for the boils plus food sucks! Myself and the other patrons were dissatisfied with that Crap. We left there and wanted to go get a REAL seafood boil. Money wasted. If you dare try them, you will be greatly disappointed.
