recently stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites-Winston-Salem/University Area NC, and unfortunately had a very poor experience. Upon arriving after a long journey, the young man at the front desk was unprofessional and unhelpful. The key card he gave me did not work to open my room door. After multiple trips back down to the front desk and being told incorrect reasons why the key wasn't working, I finally demanded to be moved to another room. The front desk clerk reluctantly changed my room, and I later witnessed him trying to enter my original room, indicating the lock itself was broken.
In addition, parking was very difficult as the spaces are small and a large number of trucks from a local electric company were taking up much of the lot. I believe the hotel rents out meeting space to this company for daily employee meetings. The hotel itself was outdated and not very clean. The room had a musty odor and the furnishings were worn. After the poor welcome and parking issues, I opted to check out early and move to another hotel in the area which was much nicer.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend staying at the Hampton Inn and Suites-Winston-Salem/University Area NC. The front desk staff was unhelpful, parking was inadequate, and the hotel facilities themselves need upgrading. I'd suggest looking at other options in the area that offer better service, easier parking, and more modern, clean accommodations. With so many hotels to choose from, you can likely find something much better than this outdated, poorly operated...
Read moreArrived on a Sunday night at 9pm, waited at the front desk for someone to check me in. I had to call the hotel and dial the front desk for someone to come to answer the phone. The only room they had available was on the ground floor which was fine. In addition to the room sounding like an echo chamber, a few days into my stay I started to hear scratching noises or like water dripping behind the wall in the bathroom. One night it was so bad that I called the front desk and was told that the pipes for the hotel all run behind the wall in the first floor bathroom and that that was what I heard. What I really was not pleased with was the breakfast. There was no selection, they had processed omelettes which had no taste, three cereals to choose from, two yogurts, a make your own waffle station and a fruit section which on Monday had browning bananas and Tuesday the same bananas which at that time were completely brown. In addition to the bananas they had a tray of pineapple, grapefruit orange and what I think was papaya. Every morning I settled for the fruit. By Thursday it was just pineapple and papaya, by Friday it was just a tray of pineapple. On top of this, I swear the king size bed was much wider than it was in length. The first night I found my legs dangling off the bottom, and I am far from tall. Overall my stay was decent. The room and bathroom were clean. The refrigerator in the room and the air-conditioning worked well. It would have been nice if the sleeping area had...
Read moreCustomer service was horrendous! The young man at the front desk was extremely rude. He accidentally dropped my driver's license down a crack in the front desk. Originally he said that the maintenance man would retrieve the card. About 45 minutes later, he called the room, stating that we would just have "to print off a new one." I was flabbergasted! He rudely told me that if the maintenance man had to take apart the front desk, I would be charged for it! He continued to advise me to just print out a new driver's license. I told him that is not the way things work in my state, besides that fact, how would I drive home without a license? At one point he told me that perhaps they would look into the matter the next morning about 9 o'clock. Again, I explained that was unacceptable as I needed to get on the road early the next morning. He simply continued to be rude and dismissive, finally hanging up on me. After at least a couple of hours of wrangling with this young man, the driver's license was finally retrieved, without a word, let alone an apology. Needless to say, my evening was ruined! I felt horrible about the whole incident all night long. It will be a long time before I decide to book another room with Hampton. I realize the hotel was not at fault, but the disagreeable young man made the situation very unpleasant. His behavior was completely...
