Elite '2021 Winston-Salem, NC 10619 3/12/2021 2 photos I almost wrote this review in ALL CAPS because I couldn't think of another way to express my new love of this place. But I'll try with words. I went here last night with my dad as we are trying different chicken "sandwiches" around Winston. I'm glad we came here last - it was my favorite! We started off with drinks (already a fan since they serve PBR tall boys) and got the Totchos appetizer (see pic) that looked amazing but tasted even better. I got the Winston Hot Chicken and my dad got the Hot Honey Chicken (pics of those, too). Both sandwiches were delicious. My only nitpick (and I really had to think to find one) is that my chicken/bun combination was a little dry. There are several versions of chicken sandwiches so I guess that means I'm coming back again and again for more! All in all, a great experience and our server (who was excellent) told us they have live music and karaoke throughout the week - def worth me checking out! I've now etched this place in my top 4 favorite WS restaurants. So glad we have a "Nashville-style" hot chicken joint!

I'm only giving this place a 5 star because Google won't let me give it a 10. I was in town and called a local friend and wanted dinner. He was out of town and told me to come here. I wanted Thai so I almost didn't go when he descibed it as Country Americana. I was thinking Cracker Barrel knockoff, boy was I wrong. I was told to sit at the bar and ask for Houston, the bartender. He suggested an Old Fashion after I told him my "favorite spirit", best one I ever had. It also paired nicely with my dinner. I asked for help on the menu with three entrees. He said "hands down all day, the meatloaf". It was next level. I couldn't even tell it was meatloaf. It was prepared beautifully and after the first bite I was hooked on this place. The depth of flavor, I had to sit and savor the first bite. Now the place is a new favorite. I also met Mark the manager. He told me the dessert list and I chose the apple cobbler. And of course it came with ice cream. Wow! Not grandma"s either. Served in an iron skillet, the apples were "ribbon cut". They weren't dried out and there was no "crumble" like I was expecting and I didn't miss it. They have great drink specials every night or you can try the house "party juice". I think Houston made about 30 "lemon drops" while I was there, the drink special of the night. He never slowed down and was just as personable and friendly. Outside the bathroom is a cool funky art dispenser. It's an old cigarette dispenser turned into an art store. I haven't seen one of these since I was in Chandler, AZ over 10 years ago. Pop in $5 and choose your art. I got an upcycled computer byte pendant. The vibe is support cool. Its a little dark in side after the sun goes down and I had to use the light on my phone to read the menu. But the vibe with the old tin marquee letters over the bar, the hundreds of photos framed on the wall and buildings beam support covered with stickers. And lighted tree made this place perfect for an out of town traveler in shorts to a beautiful dressed couple for date night for dinner. I'm coming back for my birthday dinner here.

(3.5 stars) A whiskey bar/kitchen is becoming de rigueur for North Carolina cities of a certain size, and Earl's is Winston-Salem's take on the concept. While it can't hold a candle to either 913 in Greensboro or Whiskey Kitchen in Raleigh, it fares well enough on its own merits. Conveniently located near Wise Man and Radar breweries and the Ramkat, Earl's is spacious and comfortable. Though I'm definitely not a country music fan, "What am I doing here?" never entered my mind. Earl's specializes in chicken, but the menu offers everything from burgers, sandwiches, and salads to meatloaf to tomato pie. For our first visit, my wife and I opted for a fried pickles starter, a Winston Hot Chicken sandwich, and chicken and dumplings. While the app arrived relatively quickly, we faced a considerably longer wait for the entrees. Granted, fried chicken takes time, but the kitchen's pace could best be described as leisurely. However, Portia, our server, was warm and friendly and did a great job. When it did arrive, the food was more satisfying than not. The fried pickles were a definite hit. They do them as chips rather than spears here. They were very thin, very crisp, and packed a good bit of dill flavor. The accompanying ranch tasted homemade. That same crispiness extended to the tots and the chicken sandwich as well. The latter packed a welcome kick from the dry rub, and creamy slaw in the sandwich was a nice touch. That said, I found myself missing the sauciness of a "Nashville Hot," and this did not feel like $14 worth of sandwich. At least it was easy to eat. The chicken and dumplings, on the other hand, were worth the $16 charged and then some. The gravy was rich and herby, savory without being too salty. The dumplings were delectable, and chicken is a house specialty here for a reason. Overall, Earl's falls short of great (except for, perhaps, in chicken), and the kitchen is slow, but it offers good service, solidly tasty food, and an inviting atmosphere.

Myself and two of my friends decided to go here Sunday afternoon for an early dinner. When we first got there, we enjoyed the decor and immediately were seated. It seemed the service was good after being helped initially; however, it went downhill wholly from the moment we ordered our appetizers. It appeared once our order was in, the server seemed uninterested in assisting. I have to ask for silverware and condiments (which took her 10mins to give); I also had consistently request water refills which I never received even after asking. When we received our spinach dip, she brought them without the chips it came with the appetizer. When we asked her for the pita chips, she stated, “ I’m not sure why they weren’t on there; if you want them, I can ask the kitchen to make them.” I’m not sure why it didn’t come with the appetizer, to begin with, if it’s made/ comes with the order. After waiting 30mins, she finally brought the chips, and at that time, we told her we no longer wanted to appetizer due to the food being cold. I gave her the benefit of the doubt because it seemed she was only one of two servers (though they were not busy). We ordered drinks which she stated were delayed or just made incorrectly because the bartender did not want to make the orders, and it became a whole ordeal between the staff as to why customers weren’t receiving drinks. After waiting for her to come back so we could receive our check, which took 45mins after requested, once we received them, we told her she could take our payment before walking away, and she LEFT.
