Radar is a cool brewery in the heart of the industrial chic district of Winston Salem NC. The location is roomy with plenty of inside and outside seating. Food trucks available as well. Radar's beer is excellent across the board. Over multiple visits I've found their Belgian styles to be their wheelhouse, though they make a German Maibock that is among the best stateside examples of the style. That beer outdoes the Germans at their own game. Service has always been perfect and the place is sparkling clean. When I last visited they has 12+ of their own taps pouring with a great variety of styles. Since it is summer, the list leaned towards lighter beers but, in this case, that does not mean less flavor. The list was creative and varied and I enjoyed drinking around the list trying many of the offerings. You're not going to find a stinker amongst them. Parking is ample off street in their gravel lot. Their beer is among the best in the Triad, and that's saying a lot because their are some truly upper echelon players in the area. For a relatively new brewery, they are headed on the right trajectory. Highly...
Read moreI will admit we were a little dubious about parking our 45 foot motor coach. But after doing a little pre scouting and surveying the google street and earth view we decided it was a go! Unhooked on 9th street and backed right into our site for the night. It was nice and level and long enough for our coach and TOAD to be parked in front. What a delightful memorable experience! Radar Brewing is in an up and coming revitalized area of Winston Salem. Two other breweries and a restaurant were all within walking distance. But we did not stray from our place! Being IPA fans we had no issue finding a great beer. The Kitchen Food Truck was on site and he knocked it out of the park with our burgers and fries. To top if all off Ears To The Ground band was our music for the evening. What a talented group of 5 musicians! Their music was off the chart good! The weather was perfect, music, food and beer...
Read moreI am so glad I stumbled on this place. The music choice was awesome! They played a childhood favorite, "Blinded by the Light". I remember when that song came out, it was one of the only songs on pop radio my dad liked. He was hardened by the war so forming a loving bond with him was difficult. I knew he loved me deep down, but didn't know how to express it.
I'll never forget it. We were driving down south on I-75 in 1976 to get some white castle from a neighboring town. "Blinded by the Light" came on the radio and I saw him bobbing his head to the beat. He looked at me and said "I never understood your music but now I do." From then on, it was a favorite of ours. We played it throughout the years until he passed in 2008.
I thought the beer was great, and the wait staff, but man, did I...
