The Hero House Experience (Online Ordering/Pick-Up Edition). Taking it way back, I was eating at the Hero House when its location was beside the Coliseum and remember when they had two sites, but now there is only one remaining. So on this day, I wanted to support the Hero House. I was conflicted about placing my order online or calling in. I called in but was on hold for so long that I hung up and placed my order online. I ordered their Greek Salad with feta cheese, Kalamata olives, pepperoncini, green peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. I also ordered their homemade onion rings. Ordering online was fast and straightforward, and I was given a pickup time with directions. Once arriving at the restaurant, my food was ready, and I was out the door in no time. However, I noticed that the salad size was not as plentiful as it used to be once home, and they did not put any crackers in the bag. Also, the onion rings were not the best, and the batter seemed off. I was not pleased with my meal and would like to know if the Hero House owners spot-check or pop in from time to time. Restaurants such as the Grecian Corner, Jimmy the Greek, The Olive Tree, Greek Guy's Grill, and Shomars, to name a few, serve the same type of food as the Hero House. Therefore, Hero House should not slack with its customer service, food presentation, or quality. Nevertheless, it has been a while since I had been to the Hero House, and I am unsure if I will return.

A great find! Quaint and cute atmosphere, although could use a little freshening up. Was craving a cheesesteak tho, and this was great. The menu varied and had some interesting entrees with Italian Greek flair. Was there around 1pm and was slightly busy which was not an issue for us. Got the BIG 15 inch cheesesteak with onion pepper cheese and added mayo. Great tasting meat and cheese, yummy fresh veg but was not the best of breads.....being honest. Fries were great but not the best onion rings. They had a thick bland coating which I thought better for fish. The place was clean, even the bathrooms. Will def go again and recommend to try. The 15 inch was big enough for two btw. Pricing was a little high on the big subs, but worth it. I think I may try one of the entrees next time. The staff was young but nice. The food did seem to take around 10-11 minutes but expected that. 5 star!! I almost forgot the cake!! Got a slice of beautiful carrot cake at $6. Was very good frosting but the cake seemed to have a bit too much going on and needed to focus more on cakin'!! Lol...

Came here specifically to try the Philly Cheesesteak after reading a few great reviews. It did not disappoint. They have it in different ways with mushroom, green peppers, grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, but I went for the deluxe which has it all. The meat was on point and flavorful. The hero is a decent size, not really big.. They also have a chicken version. I also got a side of fried zucchini sticks that were good but a bit salty. This place offers a great selection of hero’s & sandwiches as well as sides. If you want dessert they also have gelato. Will definitely be coming to try out other items. Plenty of indoor seating even with the social distancing in place.

Well, we completed the S. Stratford Road gyro trifecta (Olive Tree, Athena, & Hero House) by eating lunch here. This is a fast food setup (order & pay at the counter, get you drink, etc., etc.). The place is big (much bigger than the one on Peters Creek), bright & clean, mostly utilitarian as to decor and seating.

Gets crowded quick at lunch, gets noisy, and service gets a little slow.The menu is really broad with a large number of subs, deli sandwiches, pizza, pasta dishes, soups & salads, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Wings, and appetizers.

The Athenian Gyro (small is $6.55) is very nice - the meat is tender, well seasoned, the veggies are fresh, and the Tzatziki Sauce is good, though a bit mild. This is an excellent Gyro, just not quite the bargain as the one down the street. You can get this on a pita or a sub roll - the pita is a little on the thick side, and chewy.

The Deluxe Gorgonzola Walnut Salad with Grilled Chicken (wow, that's a mouthful!) goes for $9.89, and while it is a good salad, it is not a great salad. The grilled chicken is flavorful, but is rather sparse on a salad this size. But the main problem is with the Gorgonzola - the cheese comes in rather large balls, at least the size of an acorn, and doesn't really crumble, but kind of mushes up. Crumbles would be the way to go here.

The Philly Grilled Chicken ($6.55) is a very good sandwich - plenty of nicely marinated, grilled chicken, on a nice sub roll, with plenty of fresh tasting veggies. All in all, plenty to like here, especially for a quick, gotta get back...

First, I have to give you my history with Hero House. I found Hero House by accident one day when I was looking for something to get QUICK! When I walked in IT SMELLED SO GOOD and DIFFERENT so I very INTRIGUED and EXCITED. I can say that I was in HEAVEN and HOOKED on their STEAK AND CHEESE SUPREME when I took my FIRST BITE!!. It was about thirty two years ago and it was the very first HERO HOUSE EVER!! So I took my husband there while we were dating and he RAVED about the SUB that he ordered! We move to Greensboro and I couldn't find it through all the Construction when I returned to Winston-Salem. Luck has it that my brother works right beside the NEW HERO HOUSE and I was once again in HEAVEN! I told this story because everyone needs to check out the BEST SUBS AND FOOD THAT I have ever EATEN ANY WHERE!! After 30 plus years HERO HOUSE STILL ROCKS!!!
