I gave this place 1 star cause it has 1 thing going for it... The food itself is not bad. We has chopped bbq plate, Cole slaw, bbq slaw and tater tots. I didn't call my mom but didn't complain. A few things upset me, 1. No kids menu, not the end of the world but we had to order a la carte for the girls. 2. Few recommendations, didn't get much help from the wait staff on picking or suggestions though we were first timers. 3. They really screwed us on the back end in paying. I had a BBQ plate 7.99 plus .99 to "upgrade" to tater tots from fries. My wife ordered a BBQ tray for 6.49 and tots not realizing that a side other than slaw didn't come with the tray and we got hit with 3.79 for a side of tots. Ordered a hot dog for 2.49 for the girls thinking it would be good from a BBQ place. They looked like they were boiled or heated up in the microwave, not even grilled. We also ordered chocolate milk for them cause we promised earlier they could have some, so the staff brings a 20 oz cup 1/4 full cause they're small kids and we go to check out and its 1.79 per kid for milk. Plus another 3.79 for their side of premium tater tots. So bill for 4 adults 2 kids, trying to be cost conscientious 34.10 (we also had some $2 sweet tea) I argued with the checkout person and she was basically like ,yeah, I know, it's crazy. Also it's cash only which I knew walking in the door but with $25 in my pocket, thought we would be fine but had to pay another 2.50 to draw out 20 from the ATM conveniently located next to the register. Overall food 3 stars, I've had better, service 2 stars, ok but not great, atmosphere 1 star cigarette ads all over the place, not being little Richards smokehouse 1 star for misleading me in the first place, price, 1 star, looks good on the menu board, rips you off on the back end and no means to argue cause it's in your stomach already. I said to the manager on the way out, see you never again and she said ,ok, have a good...
Read moreI stepped into the restaurant as a new customer with a friend and was immediately looked at by the first cashier and two men in the back like I didn’t belong in their establishment. After a few awkward stares, the cashier eventually asked were we dining in or not. We replied we were and the lady told us to take a seat. After being seated, we were met by the nicest, kindest waitress. She helped us with things on the menu. We ordered the barbecue chicken. I had the sweet potato fries, baked beans, and hush puppies. My companion had fries, onion rings, and rolls (which were really just hamburger buns). The chicken was subpar and seasonless, but the Real Q sauce and Texas Pete helped liven it up a little. Hush puppies were great, and the sweet potato fries and beans were a nice compliment. My one star came from when my partner decide to pay. He resembles a Hispanic person, but is indeed not. He attempted to pay with a card. Unbeknownst to us, the restaurant was Cash Only (use eye level signs). The cashier (different from the original) said no cards. My friend responded “Oh you guys don’t take cards?” in an embarrassed way. The lady immediately raised her tone and spaced out his words as if he didn’t understand her language and did not just speak it. “No Cards, Cash Only” making hand gestures to signal money. She pointed to the ATM in the corner. Standing by the door, I watched the interaction as my friend used the ATM. She turned around to the original cashier and rolled her eyes as she mouthed something to her and snickered. I shook my head in disappointment. My advice to the Real Q owners is to use discretion in who you allow to be the face of your company. For this one experience, I will never step foot inside of another “Real Q” or “Little Richards.” There is no excuse for the...
Read moreI cant give a testimonial of the quality of food because I left the establishment without purchasing. Upon moving to winston salem about 6 years ago. I stopped by when it was formally called "little Richards" and was greeted by a woman whom as I approached the counter, immediately grabbed a pencile and ticket to take my order. I asked her for a menu and browsed it as she stood waiting for my selection. Having some trouble deciding what to have, the waitress offered no advice and seemed cold in response to my questions about menus items and did not probe to get an idea of what I might have had a taste for. After placing an order with no assistance from this woman, I noticed three gentilmen in the kitchen area starring at me as she and I had dialog (this was during their off-peak hours). Having ordered, I reached into my wallet and handed the lady my debt card and she immedialty said "we dont take cards". Feeling my reception cold and shallow, I left and till this day, I've not returned. My white friends and colleagues seem to have positive vibes pertaining this establishment but I have yet to hear of any person of color mention this place in a manor inconsistent with...
