I don’t like to leave bad reviews on local business but this is one I feel I need to. Yes place is older but good drink good bones. Management really need to do more interaction with customers as far as hokey pokey, the dice roll different games to get people going in interested in the rink and skating. Also, no floor guards on duty every rink I’ve been to my entire life it’s always had some kind of floor guard. They’re skating the floor and helping novice skaters and keeping skaters in line everyone but the manager had no personality when I ask questions, they couldn’t answer them or wouldn’t. I really disagree with beginner skaters having to pay five dollars for the trainer specially if you’ve already paid for skate rental, why would you not give a beginner skater a trainer for free to get them interested in skating? This is the problem with skating rinks now this is why nobody comes skating when it cost you $50 for two people to skate there’s a problem you shouldn’t charge five dollars for a beginner trainer why would you not want them beginner skaters to skate so they will come back to your establishment all rink should have a floor guard on duty to assist skaters and also teach novice skaters even though it’s not a skate lesson it makes a difference in ranks I’ve worked in rinks for years been around skating all my life that’s how it’s always been done the years I was skating you’d have 100 people waiting out the door to get in a rink on a Friday or Saturday night but when you have rink start doing things like this is what makes people lose interest in him and the older skaters to...
Read moreSo disappointed in this skating rink. I am 45 years old, I grew up skating here in the late 70's & early 80's. Best days of my life, so many great memories. Just started back a couple of years ago after being away for about 30 years. The rink is in major disrepair. The skating surface is dirty & in bad shape & the bathrooms look just like they did in 1983, other than a tile floor that has been put down, & the bathroom is always filthy. It's pretty much a free for all - the kids do whatever they want, such as speed skating whenever they want to, skating in the wrong direction, skating across the floor instead of around it, standing still on the skating surface, sitting on the walls, adults carry their children & walk on the floor while wearing shoes, which is a hazard. Occasionally there is a floorguard but they rarely enforce any rules. They seem content to just roll around the floor & socialize or play on their cell phone. A friend & I normally go on Sunday afternoons but we decided to try a Saturday night last weekend - we will never do it again. It was completely uncontrolled chaos. There were even police officers patrolling the building all night because as a staff member put it, "there is trouble sometimes". Speaking of the staff, most of them look to be in their late teens/early twenties & really don't seem to care about anything going on. Despite all of this, I love this old skating rink & will continue to skate there on Sunday afternoons until I am no...
Read moreI am giving good old Skate Haven 5 stars today because the staff were absolutely amazing! I haven’t been to Skate Haven since I broke my arm in two places there way back in 1997 and today I brought my daughter for a friends birthday party. We had some skate issues (nothing on the part of Skate Haven) and the guy at the counter was super accommodating. Honestly I felt bad for bugging him so much but he was so cool about it. Towards the end of the party the lights went out, and some flashing lights came on. I PANICKED! I have migraines and seizures triggered by flashing lights. I heard my daughter hollering for me and all I could do was bury my head in my hands to protect my eyes, and blindly shout back at her. The guy heard what was going on and promptly asked if I was ok. I explained about my seizures and he promptly asked if I would like him to turn them off, which he did (just the flashing ones, I’m not trying to ruin everyone’s good time). I was just going to ask if I could go out and come back in after the lights were done, but he was so awesome and turned them off so I could stay. Anyways, most people don’t take me seriously and just think I’m being a Karen when I worry about my health condition, but he was truly compassionate and helped me out. I was able to enjoy the rest of our time there and it was a blast! The rest of the staff were friendly and helpful and looked like they were having fun at work. Thanks...
