Sushi Rose is a game-changer! My friend and I recently enjoyed this new Peruvian/Japanese fusion spot, and we were blown away by the entire experience.
We started with the crispy sushi and scallops as appetizers, both of which were INCREDIBLE. Everything was a perfect blend of textures and flavors and we literally couldn't get enough. We wanted to try as much as we could so we shared all of our mains - we tried the Surf and Turf roll, Luna Tuna, Acevichado Roll, Grilled Pulpo tacos, and Soft Shell Crab tacos. Every.👏 Dish.👏 Was. 👏 A👏 MAZ👏 ING👏
The concepts, ingredients, execution, and presentation were pure art. The food was so good we had to meet the Chef, Armin.
Not only is he incredibly skilled but also humble, passionate, and so welcoming. It's clear that Chef Armin has skill, creativity and a palate that sets this place on another level.
Nevin, the owner, is another standout guy. His passion for the restaurant and his vision for creating a unique dining experience in Winston-Salem are clear in every detail. The presentation of the food was impeccable, and the service was flawless, and atmosphere is great.
The space feels fresh, sleek, modern, and full of energy. With its cool design elements, I kept forgetting I was actually in Winston-Salem; it feels more like you’re eating in WeHo or Midtown Manhattan.
I cannot recommend Sushi Rose enough. I’m already getting friends together just to go back. My only minor negative is that some of the tables felt a bit small, which was slightly restrictive, but honestly, that’s a tiny issue (pun intended) compared to the overall 10/10 experience this place offers. WS Foodies, don't sleep...
Read moreThe food is good, but not any better than a select few sushi restaurants in the area and this place is overpriced for the small portions to quality ratio. For example, the Waygu was 2 pieces - 2 small bites for the $25 order.
The decor would have been fresh 10-15+ years ago in Charlotte but in 2024 it's just late trend-chasing with cut-corners. The Target-quality table lamps need to be replaced with something with weight and substance (or open them up and add weights). The floral touches are flat and lifeless compared to the Nikkei restaurants they drew direct inspiration from. The tables appeared to be marble-look laminate. I was unpleasantly surprised with just how weightless the chairs were.
It needs to step up the quality and portions if it wants to stay in business. They've priced themselves too high for the quality and portions. It's not as good as other Nikkei restaurants I've been to, but I hope it improves (which is why I'm not sugarcoating this). I can tell from speaking with him that the owner is passionate about this.
Also, I hope to see full entree-sized ceviche dishes instead of only "small plates" on the full menu.
I'll aim to try them again in a few weeks/months
Edit: Dropping a star since it looks like they're flooding this with fake reviews. Lots of one line 5-star reviews from people who have never left reviews, all within minutes of eachother 2 days after the business was last open? Very suspicious to...
Read moreHave been waiting for this place to open up for what feels like forever! We waited a couple weeks after their soft opening and came for my birthday. Disappointing that they STILL don't have a liquor license however we improvised with Incendiary togo beers. The jalepeno appetizer was hillariously gross. 18$ for 1.5 jalepenos cut length wise, zero flavor except for the flavor of canned tuna. As a sushi fans we were super disapointed in the lack of flavor and overcooked rice for $20 a roll. (Like yall can't even get the rice right???) The Brulee roll was definitely the worst and probably the grossest sushi roll I've ever experienced. Despite all the lack of flavor, taste of canned tuna, and overcooked rice, the icing on the cake was swatting at gnats the entire time. Its like we had to look out for each other the entire time protecting our beer and food from their infestation. (Probably not the best to keep the front doors wide open with zero entry way air and an existing infestion.) Luckily we got some good laughs at it all. Sitting next to plastic plants and swatting flies, only one restroom available for the entire restaurant was quite amusing. It was far from a $140 experience for an appetizer, three rolls, and two desserts. I really hope they can use this feedback to turn things around, especially after coming in flexing so hard with their dress code....
