I wanted to like this place, but it was a big miss for me. My husband and I stayed here for one night, and we did not have a great experience.
First, communication from the staff leading up to our arrival was very confusing & disjointed. We had a big event the day we were checking in. I called the morning-of, and I spoke to someone about our arrival. They provided instructions about how we could access our room after hours, as that would be necessary for our timing. Though I spoke to someone, I received two missed calls & voicemails from different phone numbers at the inn throughout the day regarding our check-in process. These voicemails made me feel very confused and uncertain about how we would access our space, as it seemed as though there was no record of my prior conversation. Thankfully we were able to get in without issue. I don’t understand why they have so many phone numbers, and I wish there was a single phone number to call.
When we actually got into the space, the room (Bethabara) was much too warm. There were no temperature controls in the room, and the ceiling fan did not help lower the temperature. The windows are at street level, so we did not want to open them for safety and noise reasons.
The mattress felt very old, and it was not comfortable.
When booking our stay months prior, we had ordered some chocolate strawberries and wine to be waiting in our room, and it was not there upon arrival. The next morning we received a cash refund for the food that was not there, so they did make it right, but it was still very disappointing.
The noise from Rt 421 in the Bethabara Room was nearly unbearable. Loud cars and sirens kept us awake for most of the night.
The inn itself is a beautifully decorated historic spot. Breakfast the next day was tasty, but nothing overly amazing.
I really wanted to like this place, and I had been so hopeful we’d have a great experience. I do not...
Read moreDon't stay here. Not if you care about safety or if you appreciate at all a property that gives a darn about you - and this place isn't it. Last weekend I had 3,000 dollars worth of property stolen from my car in their parking lot. Specifically, two well locked bikes along with accessories that literally had to be ripped off the rack, as was evidenced by the mess the thieves left. When I reported it to the inn keeper, this person had the audacity to tell my partner and I that he had HEARD the commotion in the parking lot at 3am but didn't bother to do anything about it. Thanks dude. Appreciate the help. I sent the Shaffner Inn a message expressing my displeasure. Never heard back from them. I tried to deal with this in private, but if you can't even acknowledge my concerns then I'm going to express them in a public forum. I hold this place responsible because the lot was poorly lit, the security camera may or may not have worked (they couldn't be bothered to get the footage when I was there with the police), and I strongly suspect an employee was involved, because the parking lot is not easily accessible, you had to know the bikes were there already, and whoever stole them clearly had transport and tools as they had to drag two liked bikes off in the dead of night. Super sketchy. The room was fine, btw, if you're curious. Breakfast was on par with the average holiday inn express, so nothing to write home about. My first and last experience with this place. Can't believe they showed such little regard for what happened to ne, but so be it. You can't be professional, I'll let everyone know the contempt I have for that place and whoever it is that owns it. Hotels and places like this have an obligation to keep their tenants safe, and this place fell flat on its face doing that. You people should be ashamed...
Read moreWhat a disappointment The Shaffner Inn was.
The room we had reserved, the Piedmont Suite, was spacious and at first entrance was impressive. Sadly, we found the floor needed vacuuming, the ladies dressing table mirror was so dusty, you could write your name on it.
Two lamps on either side of the couch didn’t have lightbulbs in them. Ironically, there was a big extension cord, that could be easily tripped on running across the floor to these two non-working lamps.
The TV was not connected to anything and we had to use the inn’s WiFi to watch a movie on our laptop.
We called the “emergency number” about the non-working TV and the voice mail message said they would quickly respond, but from our 7pm call, to the following morning, NO ONE CALLED.
The toilet seat in the bathroom was loose and there was no body soap in the dispenser in the shower.
The mattress in the king size bed was hard and VERY uncomfortable.
The morning breakfast consisted of strawberries and blueberries, plain bagels, little pastries, boxed oatmeal, orange juice, coffee and water.
Our reservation (see pictures) said we would receive a hot breakfast, but we were told at check-in that they said they gave their chef the day off and we would be receiving a light continental breakfast instead.
No one even asked how our stay was as we were leaving.
None of these deficiencies were reflected in the rather high price for the room.
Don’t believe the pictures posted on their website because the reality is quite different.
Like the dirty water in what looked to have been a once...
