I have only had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant 2 different times and both times i left with a full stomach and a smile. The food is affordable and delicious. The caldo de res (rojo) is what i ordered both times, and both times it was extremely delicious! The waitresses are very polite and have a positive attitude. The restaurant is clean (i have not visited the bathroom there) and is small, but that is usually a sign that the best restaurants/food tend to have in common. It has televisions showing various mexican shows. The cooking staff work their magic in the back and you get to witness some of their work through a “order ready” frame out behind the counter. What i witnessed looking through the frame out was precision work, clean practices, and attention to detail. The food comes rather quickly considering that it is very delicious. They have assorted mexican drinks (bottle) that are ice cold! The waitresses check on you often to ensure you have everything you need or want to accommodate your food. The sauce they supply that is light green in color is incredible: spicy and fresh. This place is not the everyday restaurant that American’s frequent believing they are going to eat authentic Mexican food, this is a legit mexican restaurant that will leave you wanting more! Bring your appetite and come before the typical restaurant rush hour, this...

Taco Rico is another iconic Mexican restaurant in Winston-Salem that is a hole in the wall. Ironically, it’s located right beside El Rancho, another popular Mexican restaurant in Winston in Salem. I came here for lunch with my friends, and we sat at a table for five people. We had to wait over 40 minutes to receive our food, which is honestly insane. Unfortunately, the food was not good either.
Mega Burrito - I hate making the comparison to El Rancho because they also serve a mega burrito, but the comparison is warranted. You will get more bang for your buck if you order the mega burrito from El Rancho. Taco Rico’s mega burrito is not as stuffed and also lacks a few of the ingredients compared to their competitor.
Burrito Tacos - I was looking forward to the Burris tacos because I heard that they were one of the most popular items on the menu. The deer sauce was extremely salty and not enjoyable. The shows of the tacos were also extremely moist and soft and did not provide the classic crunch that is known for birria tacos.
Worth it? Not at all considering that we waited over 40 minutes for mediocre food.
Overall? If you’re craving Mexican food, just go next-door...
Read moreThe best Taquería I’ve been too , I got 3 sopes de la lengua y uno de asada and it was sooooo good , the salsas and aguas frescas were out of this world ! 10 outta 10
Updated : this is my GO TO ! This time I got an order of tacos , 2 lengua (beef tongue ) , 1 barbacoa (shredded beef ) , 1 asada (steak) . I can’t choose which one was my favorite they were all so good! I love how they give you 3 options for the salsa, the creamy green one is my absolute favorite! I like my tacos With extra onion and lime (they charge you extra for that )and the tortillas are homemade .
The only thing I can say is last time I came here I ordered the same exact thing ( an order of tacos , extra onion and lime and a glass coke ) and it was 20+ dollars. This time it was 17$ so I think they overcharge me the last time so just be mindful of that and ask for your receipt. Other than that I rave...
