I’ve loved this restaurant from the first time I tried it nearly a decade ago. Though, I don’t get to visit this locale often, when I do, I am NEVER disappointed. And today proved no different. The only difference was I brought my mom along. This was her first experience and she LOVED IT - like I knew she would! So, without further ado, let’s dive in!!
If you don’t know, now you know, that Another Broken Egg was founded in New Orleans, Louisiana - my hometown (yes, I know, I am not a Florida born and raised gal). So, naturally, my love and bias for any restaurant that brings back memories of my childhood and the flavors of NOLA is usually a win in my book. Now, normally, I get one of their specialty pancakes or seasonal breakfast options, but today I had the 1/2 Bacon Lover's BLT&A (with a fried hard egg and breakfast potatoes) because I wanted a more savory breakfast. My mom had the Bourbon Street Pancakes (with a side of medium fried eggs and chicken sausage). Of course, she let me have some of her pancakes too because DUH!!! As expected, everything was DELICIOUS - especially those pancakes.
Portion sizes are great - it’s plenty of food. They offer tons of drinks & libations if you want to get a little morning cocktail vibe going. If not, they have plenty of non-alcoholic beverage options. Prices points are very reasonable and more importantly, for the quality of food you’re getting, it’s all worth it! The staff is amazing. Our server today, Lila H., was absolutely fantastic!!
This locale gets busy on the weekends, but it’s pretty easy-going during week day - especially during the morning. The service is speedy during this timeframe as well. On the weekend when it’s busier, the wait can get long, but I promise it’s worth it. There’s a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating and the overall decor mimics that of a mom and pop eatery. Very homey but also has French / Cajun moments that pay homage to its founding city.
All in all, this was a great morning breakfast with my fav gal, my mom, prior to starting my work day. I’ve made a new fan for the restaurant (aka my mom), so, trust and believe, we will be back!! As you, IF you have not been, change that now! Please pay this restaurant a visit. It will be worth...
Read moreSigh. I read so many glowing reviews about Another Broken Egg Cafe and was dying to try it. After deliberating on which location to hit I decided to go with this one because it’s closest to home. Maybe that was my first mistake. After waiting a bit after being sat by a hostess a waitress came and took my order. I decided to get the crab eggs Benedict thinking I couldn’t go wrong with that. Wrong again. When the food came out after what seemed like forever, the so called crab cakes had a rancid smell like they had been left out all night and it just didn’t taste good at all. I know for a fact a good and fresh crab cake doesn’t smell or taste like that. The potatoes were stiff, cold, and dry. Nothing had any kind of flavor. So I alerted the waitress, decided to give it another chance, and tried the French toast colada, scrambled egg, and sausage. Although I was able to eat the French toast and it was okay tasting, the eggs were cold, and the pineapples were sour and not caramelized as stated in the menu. They tasted like canned pineapples you get from the store. The sausage patties were more like deformed hockey pucks (hard, barely lukewarm, and flavorless). I sent the eggs back and reported they were cold and they supposedly “remade” them but I noticed a dark yellow color on one section of the “remade” eggs indicating to me that they were old eggs. They don’t turn dark like that unless they’re old. Not sure what the deal is with this place as they have endless food quality issues. Basically nothing is brought out to you hot or fresh. I think they might be cutting corners to keep up with demand and cooking too much inventory ahead of time, which then sits and gets old and cold and they bring it out to customers. Maybe I am the crazy one here, but I don’t see how this place has such glowing reviews! To me, Kekes Cafe and First Watch both blow this place out of the water! I’ve even truthfully had better food at Perkins and that’s not saying too much. At least when I go to those establishments I know my food is hot and fresh! Unfortunately, I now believe that much more is “broken” than just the eggs at this place. What a letdown. I am genuinely disappointed. Oh well, back...
Read moreWe had our first, and only visit back in June. Everything seemed to be going well, but we were put off after reviewing our receipt later. I intended to call about it after the weekend when they weren't as busy, but the receipt became misplaced. I actually found a picture I took of it while looking for photos of the food to add to this review.
I wanted to say how great our server had been, but a couple things threw that off. She was friendly and took the time to go over the menu as it was our first visit. After ordering, I asked about an offer we got to try the biscuit beignets and she responded she'd already ordered some for us and to save the email offer for next time. My wife had dietary restrictions related to pregnancy so we didn't really plan on ordering them this time since she couldn't have them anyway. Turns out, she charged us for them when she added them without us asking. I also ordered a spiked butter pecan cold brew, menu listed price as $9.49 and showed it had Makers Mark bourbon. Receipt showed the non-spiked version with shot of Captain Morgan added for an upcharge, which appeared to cost a bit more when done that way, by about $1. Not sure if the alcohol used was captain or not, but if it was put into the POS that way, I'd imagine that's what the bartender made. Not sure if that part is normal, but with both issues together, it put us off wanting to return, despite overall service and food being decent.
In the end, we did eat the beignets, so paying for them isn't a huge deal, but being charged when the server added them without us ordering isn't right. Maybe it was an oversight, maybe intentional. I'd hope the former. Mistakes do happen. The alcohol could have just been the way it gets entered, but I'd imagine there's an option for it as listed on the menu rather than done through modifiers that cost more.
Aside from that, it is quite loud inside when busy. I don't mind, but others might.
As of now, what amounts to $6 in added cost will likely keep us from returning. It may have been mistakes made while busy, but it feels like shady attempts to increase our bill. Happy to discuss if desired, maybe it would change our minds...
