I initially booked a room to get some rest while my father was in his last days of life at Advent Health in Winter Park. I was able to complete check-in in person and was pleased with the young man who checked us in and the room as well. A few hours later, my sister and I found out his condition had deteriorated even faster than we thought so I called my mother to come to the hospital as she had gone home to gather her belongings an hour away.
At his bedside, I proceeded to book another room for my aunt and uncle who came in from out of state. I called the front desk to advise of my urgent situation and advised I could not leave his side as we did not know if my father was going to pass.
The woman who answered the phone, JAMIE, had a lack of empathy to our delicate situation and stated that my family could not check-in despite me already having checked into another room just a few hours earlier. Her responses were robotic and she did put any effort into trying to find a solution. I advised I could provide any information or ID needed to allow my family to check in as I did not want to leave my father's side since doctor's advised it could be any minute my father could pass away. She said "there were no managers on duty" and she "could not do anything". In a desperate attempt to get my family checked in, I went speeding down the road in efforts to get back to my father on time. I checked into my 2nd resveration and proceeded to go into my 1st room to gather some items, only to find my room key had been deactivated by Jamie. I already had my dad's sister in there, so she let me in. My family went into the 2nd room and found the room was not clean, beds were unmade, and appeared to belong to another guest. To say I was upset is complete understatement. In my years of being a Gold Bonvoy member and having formerly worked hospitality for years, I have never experienced such a lack of empathy, unprofessionalism, and malicious behavior by a Marriott employee in the wake of a sensitive situation such as ours. My mother, sister, and I slept in my father's hospital room where he passed away the next morning. I still cannot believe a stressful situation was made even more stressful and especially since everything went so wrong after my initial check-in. I would appreciate a response on this situation. Employees like Jamie do not exemplify the Marriott brand or spirit. I really enjoy staying at Marriotts but this situation was deplorable. Thank you so much...
Read moreWish I could leave no stars…. I am a top tier elite member at their direct competitor and have been so for many years. Not to mention I have stayed in many hotels across the country including Marriott brands. Over the past couple of years I also started building my elite status with Marriott and I can say that this is the first Marriott brand hotel that I have stayed at that I experienced this kind of lack of professionalism and commitment to clean rooms. The person checking us in was rude and said he was putting a $24.00 hold for incidentals and that the $24.00 charge would be removed at check out. That was not the case he actually charged my card $12.75. I suppose this is some kind of parking fee even through parking is free at the other hotel in the same parking lot!!! He should have just been honest and up front about the charges!
Now for the main issue we experienced which was that the room was absolutely disgusting. There was a face print and hands on the tall mirror and the glass door for the bathroom. The two queen beds had twin sheet put long way across the bed so the top sheet only went down to the knee with the knee and below only under the comforter. The counter in the bathroom had sticky stuff all over the counter and there were sunflower seeds all over the little living room area. When we tried to watch tv it kept sparking in the back. The room was very noisy with doors slamming all night. The next morning (a Saturday) we go down for breakfast at 930am and it is over or they do not provide breakfast.
I recommend if you are going to be in the Winter Park area the competitor in the same parking lot is a much nicer place to stay if you are looking for clean quiet rooms and professional staff. Not the mention parking is free at the...
