Rudi's Deli — Restaurant in Winter Park

Food was phenomenal, but the people suck. We had a group of 6 from Denver come in and started looking at menus. It’s a small place, so we took up some room obviously. The guy at the counter proceeds to tell us that if “the locals come in then they take priority and you guys gotta move out of the way” … um, ok? It was 10:30 in the morning and no one else was there. For the record, only one other couple came in while we were there. We had 3 toddlers (well behaved, mind you) with us and sat outside on the deck. We put two chairs near the deck entrance to block the kids in. Immediately, a lady comes out to scold us about how it makes them look like they’re closed and if anyone one else comes, we need to move these chairs immediately. Like I said, only a single couple came and they took it to go. While I was ordering, the guy was a total jerk. I put two bags of chips on the counter and said “I’ll take a #2 and #4 with these please” to which he stares at me and says “SIZE?!” so I said “oh oops didn’t know they came in sizes..small” to which he says “SIDE?!” but he said it the exact same as ‘size’ so I misunderstood and said “oh a small is good” to which he yells even louder “WHAT SIDE?” I was so surprised at how rude he was, so I just pointed down at the bags of chips I put on the counter. I told him “sorry I’m new and this is my first time here, take it easy” and he just said “anything else?” Like okay I get it, tourists are annoying. But we were all respectful and polite and cleaned up after ourselves (and kids), so if this is just how miserable (or douchey) you are on a regular basis, then maybe you shouldn’t be in customer service because you really suck. We told a few shops at the base about our experience with you and they all apologized on your behalf, so thankfully our first WP experience wasn’t too overshadowed by a crap couple of people. Really wanted to try this place as the fish taco was closed. I work in customer service so I understand when being short staff and the employees were working hard. However, I cancelled my order since I found out after waiting 30 minutes it would be an hour wait. I wouldn’t have mind waiting if I was trying to get home from being out of town. I wish they mentioned up front before ordering how long the wait will be to help customers make a decision as many orders were cancelled or have signs that it can take up to an hour. Again, I know they were working hard and I know what it feels like when customers are frustrated because they have been on hold for an hour when it’s just 1 or 2 people. On this wind and snowy day, we came to the very understated sandwich shop on the main Drive. After eating lunch here, we realized we should have started the week here. This was the best lunch of our entire stay in Winter Park! Johnny took her order, Bob made the food, and Jean gave us good service. I ordered a turkey sandwich and then some soup and some pasta salad. The turkey sandwich was healthy tasty and light. Broccoli cheese soup was to die for! And that pasta salad was pretty darn good too. Overall , my wife and I enjoyed our experience here the best because of the taste , the service , and friendly smiles.
