Recommend: mussel and clam appetizer, rigatoni with octopus (special), orecchette with sausage and broccoli rabe, boar ragu Good: pannacotta (special), Ok: bucatini with eggplant and swordfish, tiramisu, bread* Men: calamari
Five stars because the execution on the recommended items were absolute perfection.
The mussel and clam appetizer was my favorite part of the whole meal. Both mussels and clams were tender and I only got one or two with any grit in them at all (seemed less like sand and more like bits of shell?). Only down size is the crustini they send with the appetizer is not great for soaking up sauce.
On our original visit, the bread they sent out which we assume is the same as their pizza dough has a lovely chew. On our second visit we got a very springing bread with a soft and tough crust.
The rigatoni with octopus was not our preferred flavor profile with it being very tomato forward but we could tell it was executed very well - the pasta was al dente and the octopus was tender and not rubbery at all. You could definitely tell it was homemade pasta by the texture on the rigatoni but the actual pasta was huge.
The panna cotta was nice, the individual components were nice, compote was lightly tart and the panna cotta was vanilla-y and creamy but when eaten together you got neither the tartness from the fruit or the vanilla notes from the panna cotta which was disappointing, but the textures on both were great. I'm not 100% if it was the ratio of the components or they needed to be punchier individually so that they worked better together.
The bucatini was a little over done in my opinion - not quite mushy but definitely softer than the rigatoni, which made it hard to appreciate any homemade pasta qualities. I found the toasted breadcrumbs gave the pasta a very greasy mouth feel and after taste. However both the swordfish and eggplant were tender. I don't know if it's worth asking people how they like their pasta cooked but I was not as impressed with the cook on the two pastas being so different
Calamari was a true dusappoint being cooked decently but having no seasoning/flavor other than the sauce.
The tiramisu seemed like it was assembled to order, which has its charms, lighter cream flavor. But the lady fingers were definitely over soaked and the signature flavor that develops when the ingredients set isn't there. Ended up having a little bit of watery pooling at the bottom. Both desserts we got talked into by our server so he should get a gold star for the restaurant.
The restaurant is divided into several sections and the section near the kitchen is especially noisy. The amount of space between the tables was also VERY narrow only wide enough for one person to fit carefully through. We witnessed several near misses of the staff colliding. There's also a section further from the kitchen area that seemed noticeably quieter, bar seating, and...
Read moreI read the review before going to Angelina’s kitchen. While the place is pretty and I don’t have any complain about the service the food didn’t impressed me. In fact I was disappointed. The bread they bring you in the beginning was excellent. The appetizer meatballs were good. I prefer the strickland steakhouse meatballs. We ordered 2 pizzas. In my opinion, they were just ok. I believe they are wood fire pizza but they came back soggy and a little burn. I don’t know how. I got the Holy cow pizza and even tho I did like the first bite, the riccota on top of it was a little bit too cold comparing to the hot pizza and the temperature difference was just not working. I also didn’t feel like the ricotta was good quality. It felt like it was a riccota bought at the store (I’m assumig it is homemade). Even though their pizza menu is very interesting and innovating, I prefer the taste of Pino’s pizza. The desert was not good. I make tiramisu quite often and it’s actually not a difficult desert to make. However, the one they brought us was also saggy at the bottom of the jar (was it the rest of the espresso?) and my husband found a piece of plastic in the tiramisu which made me wonder: isn’t homemade? A lot of people are complaining about the prices. I’m ready to pay these prices if the food is good but it just didn’t work for me. I think I will come back but not right now. I hope the restaurant will take into consideration people’s feedback and make some change. Hopefully next time I’ll come , food will get some...
Read moreI went there tonight and I was hopeful for a great experience. This was not the case. The servers were friendly, but they ignored us as they chatted amongst themselves. The prices were ridiculous. Pastas averaged over $30 a plate. The selection was extremely limited. When we finally got our food, we had no drinks and no waitress came to check on us for at least 20 minutes. Someone from the kitchen brought out our plates rarher than the waitress. I ordered a pasta called spaghetti all' astice. The description says "spaghetti with fresh lobster in a cherry tomato sauce. No where did it say that it was a lobster in the shell and you had to crack everything open yourself. This was a lobster cut in half, and a super small one at best. All of the "meat" was mushy and beyond soft which shows the lobster was very undercooked. The tail was barely as long as my finger (smallest lobster I have ever seen in a restaurant). Now this was supposed to be a pasta dish, but there was barely any pasta. If I twirled my fork 4 times the pasta would have been gone. There was essentially nothing there. The flavor of the sauce was decent, but it was bland. For all the money you pay for dishes there, you would hope the taste was exquisite. However, it wasn't. All in all, I would not recommend this restaurant. The prices are way too high, the portions are way too small, and the food is nothing special (and not cooked properly). When I got home I wound up making some eggs because I was...
