Poblano Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Woodlawn

I recently dined at this halal Mexican restaurant and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While the restaurant had potential, several aspects of my visit were disappointing and left me questioning the value of my meal.

First and foremost, the portion sizes were severely lacking. I ordered the steak fajitas, priced at $11.65, expecting a satisfying meal. However, I was shocked to find only a small scoop of steak and rice being given. Feeling unsatisfied, I kindly asked the cashier for a bit more meat and rice. To my dismay, the additional portions were just as minuscule as the original ones.

To make matters worse, the cashier failed to inform me of the extra charges for the additional meat and rice. It was only when I received the bill that I discovered the extra steak had cost me $4.99 and the rice an additional $1.99. This lack of transparency left a sour taste in my mouth and left me feeling taken advantage of. This brought the total up to the point where I would almost be paying the same for order of 2.

The quality of the food was decent, an convenient option considering the fact it’s the only halal Mexican option nearby. But the meager portions and the unexpected charges for extra scoops left me feeling unsatisfied and disappointed.

I hope that the restaurant takes this feedback constructively and makes the necessary improvements to provide a more enjoyable dining experience for its customers...

Honestly, based on others' reviews, we were expecting more. Food was just OK, nothing to rave about. Service did not meet expectations.

Ordered online for pickup - 3 items: veggie nachos grande, shrimp 2 taco platter, & steak taco shell.

Food was ready for pickup at promised time & not cold. Restaurant was not busy @ 6 PM - no indoor diners, one person leaving when I arrived, no one else there when I was, one person entered before I pulled off the parking lot.

All 3 items we ordered include hot or mild salsa - nowhere online to specify which. Requested 'mild salsa on the side, please' under Special Instructions' for 2 items, but we didn't get any salsa on the side.

The menu advertises 3 different freebies, depending on purchase amount (2 for $10 purchase, 1 for $20 purchase) & 1 BOGO offer. We spent ~$30, but didn't get offered any extras.

I realize anyplace can have an 'off' day, so I'll probably give it another try, but I won't be in any hurry to go back.

Bottom line: OK (not great) food, service not up to expectations. Plenty of other places within easy driving & price range, desperate for business during...

Disappointing!

I ordered the steak taco platter with two sides, chicken taquitos, and burrito bowl. I've had better quality taquitos from a gas station. They were incinerated and inedible. They tasted like the grease used to fry them hadn't been changed in months. Disgusting and right into the garbage!

The taco platter was literally a pile of indistinguishable slop thrown haphazardly on top of a stack of soft tortillas. All 4 tortillas were merged together and totally inaccessible under the pile of slop. I tried to take them out and they had all merged together and disintegrated. The steak looked like canned Alpo dog food and was chewy - I expected better quality meat since it's advertised as Halal...

The burrito bowl was ok; but for $34, this was a disappointing experience. This was a take-out order which was consumed within 20 minutes of ordering. I would be embarrassed to serve food...
