I was in Woodstock for Date Night and was excited to try out a new location. After searching on Yelp I decided on Keegan’s.
Pulling into the parking lot I was excited to see that there was ample parking. The restaurant sits right off of the main road which makes it easy to find.
As we walked in, the hostess was at the hostess stand and met us with a smile. She welcomed us in and quickly seated us (party of 2). Once seated I was excited at how diverse the menu is. There is literally something for and food desire.
Within minutes of being seated the waiter arrived at the table, welcomed us to Keegan’s and took our drink order. As I looked around the restaurant, it has the traditional pub style setup. It is huge inside, and offers outdoor seating as well. Along with the traditional setup the decor is Irish influenced. The overall atmosphere is upbeat and colorful. Along with the visual appeal there was Live Music (Saturday Night). This night in particular there was a male artist performing and he helped add to the ambiance and overall smooth tone. The music was slightly loud which made it harder to have personal conversations, however, we just talked louder. LoL!
When the waiter arrived with our drinks, we were ready to order. I decided on the Fish & Chips which consisted of 2 pieces of Fried Cod, French Fries, and Coleslaw.
The food was amazing. The visual presentation was enticing. The flavor profile was fresh, not overly seasoned, and overall very good. The Cod was Golden Fried on the outside and meaty on the inside. The batter wasn’t too thick and had a great crunch to it without compromising the natural softness of the fish. The fries were well done as I requested and well seasoned. The house Tartar Sauce was absolutely amazing. The flavor paired well with the Cod and didn’t overpower the natural fish flavor.
Overall, I enjoyed the food and atmosphere of Keegan’s and would recommend it to anyone in the area looking for...
Read moreWent here recently to grab a bite to eat before seeing a movie around the corner. It wasn't stellar, but it wasn't awful.
The level of service wasn't fantastic to start with, but it did improve as the night went on. The first hostess barely acknowledged us, and disappeared until another swept in to seat us. We were sat directly in front of the stage, right beside the speakers as the band was warming up. Great band, but it would have been nice to enjoy the music from a little further back so we could havea conversation; it wasn't so busy that other tables weren't available. Ultimately, not a big deal, though. At least the music was good.
The real frustrating part was that once we were sat, it was a solid 10-12 minutes before anyone came by to start even getting our drink order. Our seats were right in the pathway where servers came and went, many times, while we waited, and no one so much as stopped.
Having said that, once our server did finally make it over, he was attentive enough and we didn't wait for much after that.
The food was good, definitely a cut above the usual bar fare you'd expect. And the Guinness is brilliant.
All in all, I'll give it 4 stars. After a rough start, the service got back up to par and the food was good. Anything that was a problem wasn't enough to ruin anything, and I understand that the service industry is a nightmare, especially right now. So, hopefully this is a gracious enough review.
Anyways, if you like an Irish pub with some good live music and above-average food, this will...
Read moreI dunno. I want to like this place, but it's confusing, like they're having some kind of issue that hasn't caught up with them.
Our waiter was attentive & fine, but he push the appetizers too hard and then seemed like he was trying to get us to cash out and leave. We came there to watch a game and eat. They tout themselves as kind of a sports bar, but no audio on any game. I could see five or six TVs none of them were moved to the game I asked for and nobody was watching them, So there was no reason to not "make it so." Seemed like a big deal to get the channel changed to a game. Two TVs near each other at the same thing on. Attention to detail fell short! And it wasn't too busy.
Food seems to start with quality options, but just fall short with complete flavor and portions. 3/5 of us got their food and the other 2 waited and waited. And when it came out my potatoes were discolored, clearly toasted from the outside from the heating lamp they sat under. Weird. Nice tasting cheese dip with the pretzels, but this is not $10 worth of pretzels.
Nice atmosphere, nice TVs, decent enough staff, may need a little more training for the attention to detail. Hostess was helpful and informative when I asked her about the live music.
One of us got dirty silverware. Couple of us the portions seemed off for the price and where the portions were good, the flavor was not hitting the mark.
I may come back for the live music, but I don't need to eat here or try to...
