El Gallo Tapatio — Restaurant in Worth Township

I used to LOVE their Bistec ala Mexicana tacos. I would travel for them, by far the best I had ever eaten. Then about 3 months ago, I drove out just for the tacos and I was shocked at how bad they were. They went from flavorful, juicy and delicious to bland, dry and terrible. I was devastated but thought, "Hmm, maybe they're having an off night - it happens." I went today and it's official - they lost it. 😢 The entire meal was poor quality and even poorer taste. It was a plate of awful. I even tried their new pollo al pastor and wished I hadn't. It had a strange smell to it and I'm really hoping I don't get sick later. The tomato on my tacos was skinned off pieces. The steak in my steak taco was a weird mixture of ground beef and something else. The rice was mushy and beans had no taste. And the saddest part of all was the bistec- dry, no tomato and no flavor. I am sad about this. They had to have gotten new cooks or owners because the quality of their food is so bad now and it used to be so good! This place has gone downhill. I called ahead and placed a to go order and was told 20-25 minutes. Got there about 20 minutes after my call and was told a couple of minutes longer. 38 minutes later, still no food. Another guy waiting said it had been 40 minutes since he placed his order. I get it, you're busy. Then tell people a realistic time for them to come in and pick up instead of making them wait. When I asked about it, the bratty girl working the counter said "we have a lot of people here that have come in since you called your order in." So you don't take the orders as you receive them? Call in orders are just pushed off to the side? I asked her to tell me how much longer or give me money back and she responded "which is it, do you want your food or your money?" The guy who told me he had been waiting immediately walked up with his receipt and said "I'll take my money". When we finally got the food home, it wasn't even good. I recall visiting this location years ago. I'm not sure when, but it was definitely before COVID. I was really famished and did not have much time, and I also did not want to look for another restaurant to eat at after I saw this one. If I remember correctly, I really liked their tacos back then, even though I only visited once. The place was clean and well-lit, and it was not full. In fact, there were only a few people eating inside. The staff are nice too, and they are also friendly. I just ordered some tacos. Service is quite slow considering that the whole place is not that busy. The tacos have a nice portion and I expected that they would be really good, but unfortunately, they weren’t and it was literally the opposite.
