This Tavern on the Square scores for location - at the far end of the Wrentham Outlet plaza it is a welcome sight for famished shoppers. Or for family members who really didn't want to shop and desperately need a drink. It's also a good option for local diners: Once inside the complex you'll find it has one of the only parking areas not jammed with cars.
The menu is a crowd-pleasing collection of current mainstream faves: quinoa based bowls, buffalo cauliflower, hot fried chicken sandwiches, small pizzas, rainbow cocktails, local drafts and so on. Something for everyone. Pretty much a Ruby Tuesdays with darker decor at the other end of the mall...
Service was fine - friendly, timely and no hovering. Our server had taken her share of Happy Pills that afternoon making our interactions a peppy, feel good affair,
The food lined up with the service - nothing really to complain about. My kid & I were feeling like a light meal and stuck to a few apps. The Buffalo Cauliflower was pretty damn swell. With pieces the size of a kid's fist, the crunchy batter held up under a solid hot-sauce drenching.
Shishito peppers were good in themselves. They weren't seasoned enough to really contrast with the foundation of watermelon chunks and bland yogurt sauce. On the other hand, those components didn't harm the dish either. And nothing sucks about a little watermelon on a humid July afternoon.
Tavern on the Square's Fried Pickles might be the best I've ever had. With a seriously crunch breading over good dill chips it was hard to split time between them and the other appetizers. The "Secret Sauce" was essentially the same "secret" recipe for pink-orange, mildly spicy & Ranchy dip that the rest of the chain restaurant universe uses. Nothing wrong with that as it always fits the frickles well.
The three starter dishes ended up being too much to eat for the two of us. The two of us left full and happy for under 35 bucks.
One last tip: Unless you are already at the Outlets, the best time to go here is in the evening, especially during the week; after the shoppers have lost some steam and the traffic in isn't a hair-pulling,...

My husband (legally blind/Deaf) and I, had the worst experience at this restaurant in relation to seating.
I went up the hostess and told her need a table next to the WINDOW and pointed to my husbands cane and advised must be VERY bright. This is why I said next to the window. I say this at EVERY restaurant. We waited 30 minutes and when they brought us to our table it was not next to the window and I explained that i needed one next to the window when i came in I told the hostess that. When the table was not bright enough the hostess got the manager not sure why would have been nice to say i am sorry let me go ask my manager. The way the front and manager handled this was awful and unsympathetic to the customer. Due to very few restaurants there my husband said we will wait (already waited 30 minutes) which another 30-45 minutes. I had to keep checking with them. I know they are busy but still it was their mistake not ours. Once they brought us to a table next to the window my husband vented (Loudly and did push the chair from frustration but not towards anyone) the Manger said they do not accept that kind of noise in their restaurant. My husband said why didnt the hostess listen in the first place when we advised next to window causing us to have to wait even more instead of having us come in and finding out table was not bright enough and having to go back out. Also The manager (blonde) with the cook manager (not sure why he was there) was starting to get an attitude and i told her my husband and i have the right to complain and should train their front hostess better to listen instead of just looking at the computers getting to the next person. The management for this restaurant did. not feel understanding or anything. There are alot of people who are visually impaired and ALL restaurants should listen when they...
Read moreOK service, good plates, would definitely try again, IN A FEW MONTHS. The knocks on our chicken and waffles were a plain albeit, cruncy chicken it lacked seasoning. The waffle itself was UNDER, you could barely pick it up with a fork and the maple syrup tasted artificial, or like they added sugar. (I just probably have a high standard for the dish.) The bang bang broccoli was well balanced and spicey. We DON'T look forward to going again. Update: We went again and we figured out the problem is management. We were forced to wait 30 minutes to get our check, another 15 minutes to pay in order to leave the resteraunt. All because the managers forced the waitperson to clear the tables to get more customers seated. The managers then went promptly inside to the cooking area to hide. They made eye contect and saw our frustrations and ignored it all, just to keep flipping larger seating tables while our 4 person booth continually ignored we were waiting to leave. We still had inconsistencies with dishes. I have never been so frustrated at a dinning expierence. Hopefully the owner will fix this issue. I changed my original review in order to convey the impact to my review by capitalizing...
