I visited the Ballard Street Cafe & Grill today to pick up a slice of pie. Unfortunately, while trying to pay for my pie, a young lady by the name of Corey, rudely interrupted my server, Caitlin, grabbed my twenty dollar bill and instructed Caitlin to get to her table. I followed Corey to the check out station and instructed the lady covering the register that I wanted to pay for my pie and the balance of the twenty dollars was to go to Caitlin for a tip. I was so angry for the rude and disrespect shown by Corey that I contacted the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager, Andrew. Andrew assured me that he would speak to everyone involved. Andrew's assurance on the phone was just as disrespectful. In today's world, customer service seems to have been left in the past. Lastly, the tip from my twenty dollar bill was not given to Caitlin. Obviously, there is a theft among the staff as well. I would appreciate a note from the owner of this restaurant and, most importantly, Caitlin to receive her tip.
I spoke to the owner of the business the following day and I now understand where the rude and disrespect are coming from. When I tried to explain the situation, I was repeatedly interrupted and his tone was very confrontational. If customers are treated in such a manner, I certainly sympathize with the employees who have to work in such a threatening and intimating environment. I was attempting to help out a friend, by leaving such a large tip, and was told that tips are divided between all staff members. I will not make the same mistake by visiting this establishment. This is not a professional organization that cares about customer service. Obviously, their main objective is to make money off the backs of their hard...
Read moreDowntown Wylie is the perfect place for breakfast! Weâve lived here for 16 years and have never gotten tired of Ballard Street Cafe, if anything we simply love it more with time. Itâs family owned and currently open breakfast and lunch. Both menus have many delicious options! This morning we sat at the bar for breakfast about 9a on a Sunday with no wait. My partner ordered the blue plate special, 2 eggs and fried bologna, and I had the Mexicali scramble, we shared 4 sausage links. Everything was delicious. My partner commented he was surprised by how thick the fried bologna was and that it exceeded his expectations, he also had wheat toast and hash browns and in his words, an extraordinarily large glass of orange juice. My Mexicali scramble was amazing! Easily one of my favorite breakfast meals anywhere! It is several eggs scrambled with slices of grilled onion, jalapeños, tomato, and ground sausage, covered in cheese and served with 3 toasty tortillas. The dish also came with crispy hash browns and I added white toast. The toast was buttery and they had four flavors of butter available - grape, strawberry, mixed, and apple butter. My first bite and I was just like oh my gosh this is so good, despite having eaten it many times in the past. The serving staff is awesome and gets to know their regulars. The owners are compassionate and really invested in. the customer experience. Prices are more than reasonable. Highly recommend if youâre looking for a yummy breakfast for the family, a morning date, or a...
Read moreI met a friend at this cute little café, nestled in downtown Wylie. Looks like it might be a fun place to walk and shop with friends, but it was the first time either of us had been there.
Our waitress was really sweet and attentive, stopping by just enough to make sure we had what we needed, but not too much to interrupt the girl talk we had going on. She hit the sweet spot!
The food is what you'd expect from a small café --- not gourmet cooking, but still good. Lots to choose from when it comes to eggs and sides, including a favorite of mine not everyone has --- corned beef hash. It was a bit on the salty side for me, but was still very tasty.
The price is right, too, as my breakfast came to about $9. For the amount of food I got --- 2 eggs, 2 slices of buttered toast, hashbrowns, and corned beef hash --- that's incredibly reasonable. I didn't try the hashbrowns, as I was content by the time I got around to it.
The decor is fun and kitchy, and the restaurant was relatively full the whole time we were there --- 3.5 hours (see girl talk note above). Seems like a popular little hangout.
Parking is like it is in a lot of downtown spots, but I was fortunate to find a spot literally at their front door.
All in all, it was a nice visit and I believe I'll come here...
