Wylie Acting Group - WAG — Attraction in Wylie

This is a true community theatre: there are auditions, a cast list is posted, rehearsals ensue, performances shine. You will find many, many dedicated volunteers making this organization run smoothly. They get by on a shoestring budget, and produce magical performances which any kid (or adult) would be proud to be part of.

What makes this different from other area community theatres: there are no "pay to play" policies (where you know, going in, that each child needs to pay hundreds of dollars to participate in each show, no matter the size of the role). Participants are not required to sell tickets (or buy a certain # of tix if they are unable to sell them). Participants are asked to donate concessions, and for parents to volunteer with some aspect of the production, but nothing like the demands made at other children's theatres (financial commitments and time).

The other thing which makes this theatre unique: NO PAID EMPLOYEES. What's crazy: NO CITY FUNDING. Other metroplex children's theatres get generous amounts of city funding to run their theatres, and keep permanent, paid employees. This theatre is a gesture of love, an enormous gift to the Wylie community from the selfless volunteers who make each show happen, and from the parents and kids who pour themselves into the operations of the organization.

A great place for kids to get bit by the acting bug! The adult volunteers work tirelessly to make sure that each and every kid gets the best experience and that the shows are top notch. Come check out the hard work these kids (and sometimes adults) put in!

UPDATE: If you didn't know, Wylie Acting Group is doing a BIG renovation to the theater space! They have listened to the comments (as well as sitting in the sometimes hot theater) and are updating the audience and stage spaces for a better experience! Come to the next show and see...

The 5 stars are for the behind the scenes and on stage actors & actress that made the Wizard of OZ great to watch. But 2 stars for feeling like a sardine in the audience , it was very hot and uncomfortable to really enjoy the show, seats we right on top of each other and probably a fire hazard.
