My boyfriend and I stopped by on a whim today, 1st time customers. We were greeted by a very friendly young man who sat us right away. They clearly are practicing social distancing guidelines, as all the other customers were seated appropriately. The decor is sweet and welcoming, there are lots of TVs, and even what appears to be a small stage for possibly some live music or even a comedy night? Covid permitting, that is. Anywho... My boyfriend and I were narrowing down our choices (we are mainly pescatarians , but will occasionally have meat) so I asked the host about the specials. He said they just put a salmon cheesesteak on the menu. Salmon cheesesteak? You mean like a Philly, but with salmon? He confirms, and says it comes with fries. He went on to say it’s so good he’s been eating it for the last three days. Hmmmm... I also ask for some coffee, to which he replied they don’t have any, says that people like their coffee all sorts of different ways, so they stay away from that. I said well people like their food all sorts of different ways, but you don’t stay away from that! He laughed a bit, knowing I was just messing with him. I am a big coffee lover but I can get over it not being offered. Especially since their food is... well... worth every calorie and red cent! I realized I had forgotten to take my insulin and I left it at home (something I NEVER do), so I knew I had to be careful with my choices. I asked our server if they can make the salmon Philly without the bread, he gave me a look but once I explained why, he understood. He asked the management, who was sympathetic to my forgetful mistake, and said they can do it without the bread. So I ordered that with a side of greens instead of fries, and my boyfriend ordered the fried whiting with cabbage and seafood salad. The food came out in a timely manner, and the server brought us all the necessary condiments and water refills. I had a HUGE helping of salmon, broccoli, peppers, onions, provolone, and their special sauce on my plate. The boyfriend had several pieces of whiting in front of him. He tried the seafood salad, which he said was good but a bit salty for him. But he then tried the cabbage and said it was delicious! I tried his cabbage and LOVED it! Perfectly peppered! He tried his fish and started nodding. He then sat back and said he may have to stop making his own fried whiting at home. Now if you only knew how frugal this man is... for him to say he might as well stop making something at home and just get it from a restaurant?!??? Stop. Call the press! Well anyway, once I started eating my salmon Philly without the bread, I could not stop! Those two young men really sold me on it, and they were not lying! The boyfriend tried it and he nearly lost his mind! He asked the server where we can find someone to smack, it was that good. Needless to say, there was none left to take home. And the greens? Perfectly seasoned! Got a lil Turkey in them, but I didn’t mind! Delicious! We will definitely be returning, I’ve got my eye on some of their soups and he wants that Turkey wing. I have a feeling there’s not a bad item on the menu. We only live a few minutes away so we will be returning soon!...

Hadn't been to the new location. Googled the restaurant and saw several dishes I'd like to try. We loved their food but after while we found that they consistently had problems processing their orders in a fair amount of time, something or someone needs trained in the kitchen. I read a review from a month ago that a customer waited hours for their orders and they complained how hot it was in there. We now are in the middle of a heat wave day after day in the 90's.
We went in and the front was nicely decorated and they have a bar right behind and it was nice and cool in there. We were led back to another room that was also very nice and much larger but it was as hot in here as it was outside..!??! We were shown another room which we were told we wouldn't like as it was very hot also. As I walked in I walked past a window unit air conditioner with it's back facing into this room..!??! It's heat exhausting into this room..!??! We headed out and asked if we could sit in the front room and was told no because they didn't have waitstaff for this small area with a few tables..!??! Three people at the bar and one table in the rear room eating and they didn't have waitstaff to support this area, really..!??!
We left..! Maybe we'll come back in the Fall when it's surely cooler and maybe by then they'll find someone who can qualify as a manager and keep this place going..?
FIVE STAR BELOW Three Years Ago
At one time this was the Stockade Bar and the property has greatly improved with the Skillet2Plate Soul Bistro. The wife and I went in Saturday night and have to say service was slow but I saw so many large orders going out the door that I understood why and sat there patiently. Our drinks were brought out without a wait and I must say you can't eat here without trying their peach tea with slices of peach..! Prices are reasonable here so we took advantage with two meals and several side dishes. We traded main dishes a couple times and were in and out of our sides and soup. Chicken peppers and brown rice and chicken and waffles were delightful and no complaints with the sides. I will go back to try their brisket and their crab cakes at least. Hmmm... a cheesesteak with salmon..? Hope that's available on lunch menu..! We were very satisfied..!
P.S. They did apologize to me for the wait... wasn't needed..! Good...
Read moreI want to share my honest and most professional review as I want them to continue to succeed in the new location. I have been at their previous location multiple times and enjoyed myself and my company every time. This however is our first time at the new location and I will say I am very disappointed.
My family and I arrived at 6:13PM for dine in. We arrived and were immediately told that it will be a 40 min wait for the food. Not unreasonable so we said that was fine and were seated immediately. We were taken to the booth area which seemed to have issues with the air conditioning. We got our drinks and immediately placed our order which was 6:31PM. We were told many main dish items were out and some sides. Again this is dinner time on a Friday night. We placed an appetizer as well which was limited to two options and everything was sold out. We received our appetizer at 7:15PM (45 min after initial order) usually you expect your meal to come out within the next 10-15 min. A few minutes later, the waiter came back and informed me that one of the sides I have chosen sold out. At this point I’m not sure what else I even wanted but chose an item. We did not receive our food until 8:30PM. At this point I am very agitated and requested the meal to be boxed and taken home.
During all of this, the waitress was very nice and accommodated us as much as possible.
Food- 3 stars as I didn’t have it fresh but it was good. Will review again when I eat right from kitchen and regrade.
Service- 2 stars- it was very warm in the area we weee sitting at and I had to get drinks changed out due to ice melting too fast. (I never would ask anything for free but the least thing they could have done was comp the tea for the inconvenience.) but I did pay for all my items and made a small tip for her contribution. Total came to about 75 dollars.
Atmosphere- 3- love the esthetics but the heat was what brought this grade down. Will regrade when I revisit. It was cooler outside than that back room.
Overall- I will try again but will wait a while until kinks are cleaned up. I’m just very upset as I never waited 2 hours for a meal. I probably wouldn’t have care as much if my kids weren’t with me but unfortunately they had to endure this experience as well.
