La Flor de Michoacán Paletería y Nevería Homemade Ice Cream Shop — Restaurant in Yuba City

I've only had the chance to visit one time so far, (Saturday, 2.3.24; 2:45pm) because I've just discovered La Flor, but I'm already delighted.

Was looking for a teacup at Goodwill in the same shopping center and that's the only reason I even saw La Flor. I'm a sucker for all the flavors at a paletería y nevería (popsicles and ice cream) because they tend to be different than most ice cream shops. And I hit the jackpot because they had rose petal chocolate ice cream. I'm currently obsessed with all things rose flavor and most often will get that with Indian sweets. So this was a very happy surprise. The consistency of the ice cream was slightly grainier than what we're used to...but in a good way. Somehow the texture was exactly what I needed to fully appreciate the rose flavor. The chocolate chunks were perfect. They were like when you swirl melted chocolate when making stracciatella gelato in order to create chocolate shards or flakes that are different, and frankly better, than a chocolate chip. A small cup was $4.25 and I found that incredibly fair because it filled the whole cup. Hubby got Reese's peanut butter cup in a small cup. So yes, you can get traditional ice cream flavors (but for me...why would you?). Soooo many flavors to try, including lots of interesting popsicle flavors. I was so excited to find a place that has all my Mexican snack faves. I took my kids to grab ice cream here and the first thing I noticed when the lady was prepping our ice cream - instead of using the scooper/tongs to grab the candy from the jars she would just dig her hands in each jar all while dealing with fruits and continuously wiping her hands on the same rag she used to wipe the surface. Did I mention she had NO GLOVES? After she placed my order on the divider near the freezer I tried to pick it up and lost balance and spilled. I asked her kindly excuse me ma’am I’m sorry accidentally knocked over one of my orders her first response was “it’s not my fault what you wanna do?” I’m like umm can I pls have a napkin. She proceeded to clean the mess and started to ignore me as I apologized. Really just ruined my whole mood. I wasn’t expecting a new free order I just needed napkins to clean. Walked into a very awkward atmosphere. Very quiet place it seemed off. I got the cacahuates locos and the Clamato was warm and fizzy and the veggies were soggy and squishy. Everything we got tasted off. This place has a lot of potential I’d recommend you guys play music and make sure your food is fresh and not expired. I was excited to try this place.
