La Unica's Fresh Mex — Restaurant in Yuba City

Horrible customer service! We first called to place our order. My 1st attempt rang until voicemail picked up. My 2nd attempt was answered by a girl whom I asked if I could place a takeout order. My question was followed by silence and then I was placed on hold which was never retrieved. We were just down the street from the restaurant so I decided to drive over and place my order in person. When we arrived at the restaurant there Didn't seem to be anyone dining inside. Not really sure why they could not take our order over the phone. I observed a table with 2 employees that appeared to be on a break and one in the back at a table that also appeared on break. When we approached the counter we were not greeted as no one was there. We waited a couple minutes and one of the girls from the nearby table got up walked behind the register appeared to do something on it and then walked away. She didn't look at us. She didn't say a word. After a few more minutes another girl appeared from the back and slowly made her way to take our order.

Upon trying to place my order there seemed to be some problems with the menu. Your menu in person matches your menu online yet I was not allowed to order what was stated on the menu because I was told it was outdated. We ordered 2 entrees and attempted to add a chip and salsa package that was offered for 499. The girl seemed extremely confused as if she had never heard of this option on your very own menu. She was attempting to charge us 4 to $5 a piece for a bag of chips and then additional for the bowl of salsa when you're menu states that you can get a large for 4.99 that comes with both. I decided not to order any chips or salsa at all. The menu waa right there. I also don't know why you would pay $9 or more for chips and salsa!

And before we get a reply from the odors stating that they are short staffed let me remind you that 3 employees were sitting in the dining room while at least 2 were behind the counter doing nothing at all. There was an empty restaurant so there's absolutely no excuse why we were not even greeted.. Even when our order was taken the girl acted like she'd rather be anywhere but there. The gentleman that brought us our food did seem a lot more friendly.

Overall the price for the quality of food seemed decent. The red sauce was a lot spicier than you would expect for regular use. The customer service was horrible however. I'm not sure how they treat their dine in guests but we were not very happy with our experience and probably will...

It was my first visit. That being said first impressions are everything.

PROS: The food was amazing. It reminds me of going to my friends grandparents house and eating a home cooked Mexican meal. The Monday burrito special was out of this world! My kids loved the tacos and nachos. The tortilla chips tasted home made and the cheese sauce was very tasty. I got the red sauce on my steak burrito my wife got the green sauce on her chicken burrito. Both where amazing! They have a really cool soda machine. You get to pick your flavors. I really enjoy a good soda with my meal. Some places water down the syrup or give really nasty flavor mixes. This place really nailed it. Btw the burritos are huge. Be prepared to take some home.

Cons: The lobby was messy. When I walked in there was no help at the counter for almost 2 min. Then suddenly 2 ladies appeared from the back. There was 5 tables that was not cleaned. The lobby only had 1 family. We sat down and there was a spilled hot sauce bottle on the floor with paper towels tossed on top of the spill. It took them halfway through our meal to pick it up. And I found out after my meal we get chips and salsa if we dine in. We never got offered the chips and salsa.

Summary:

This is a 5star review restaurant! But the cleanliness needs improvement. I will definitely be back it’s my new favorite place for sure. Overall this place is worth coming back for again and again. Fast food mexican food. Marginally OK. Stand in line to order, no menu posted, so pick one up at the register then pick out your meal, while everyone else in line is waiting. The Iced Tea dispenser was empty no one filled the entire time I was there.

Service is sketchy, depends on who you get. I was getting frustrated waiting in line, thought the customer at the counter was being overly obtuse, after two more customers and then my turn I realized the girl behind the register was just plain incompetent.

Prices are high; for what it is, There are several better mexican restaurants in town, Might be OK for a quick burrito at lunch time, I won't bother to take the time to find out.
