I came in years ago, when they first opened, and was less than impressed. The food was edible, but nothing special. Compared to previous local restaurants serving similar fare, it was a rough start.
I am very pleased to report that this place is no longer mediocre, but totally awesome!
I eat a LOT of Middle Eastern and Meditation food and tonight's rice was not just some of the better yellow rice I've had, it was the best rice I've ever had anywhere. I'm not a bad cook, myself, and all of my friends are foodies, so I'm used to eating well. I was eating so fast that I bit one of my fingers...
Both the steak and chicken kabobs were delicious, but my kid loved the kofta the best. How could we possibly choose between all of our favorite sauces? The tahini, tzatziki, and garlic sauces were all phenomenal examples of their type.
The side salad was crisp and the sprinkling of house made croutons and the amount of dressing were perfect.
The hummus was smoother than any I've had and not overwhelmingly garlicky, as it's too common (not that we don't love a too garlicky hummus once in a while).
The pita were inoffensive, which is a huge improvement from the embarrassingly terrible pita they served years ago, but they didn't need to compete with all of the other flavors and did their job admirably. The texture was especially improved, as the original pita were exhaustingly chewy and these were almost delicate by comparison.
The lemon lentil soup had all of the right flavors, but didn't have any texture. I don't know if it is supposed to be more of a blended style or if it was just a little overcooked, but I wouldn't hesitate to try it again, even though I like mine with a bit more of the texture intact. The flavor was deep and not too sweet or too peppery, in spite of looking like it might have had too much black pepper and more carrots than I was expecting.
I've had better dolmas out of a can, but they weren't bad. A little smaller and blander than I'm used to, but a very serviceable snack. I might have been more impressed with them if I had eaten them as an appetizer.
That yellow rice is a hard act to follow! It will haunt me for the rest of my life, because nothing else will ever measure up. This is the new standard for me. This rice broke me. You...
Read moreDissatisfaction is the key word when you talk about this place. Formerly a Chinese food establishment the new place and owners are lacking in many things. You first greeters are the owners kids who have the first booth in restuarant, cluttered with all there belongings and their iPads giving them direct feed to their Migos track " Stir fry" a melancholy reminder of the old friendly and brighter atmosphere that once resided here. Not only do you have to walk all the way to the back of the restaurant in which you have to get the host or servers attention. She will begrudgingly hand you their one sided menu. To be fair the other side of the menu is full of a list of beers and wines. Which I'm not discounting I feel it just should not be used as a filler to beef or give the illusion of having more menu items rather than providing more choices and have the alcoholic menu as a small side menu as most all other restuarant do. As they are a new restaurant and provide middle eastern food, a different food especially for the high desert, they should expect people to have question or inquires about the food or have a little quick script in which they can communicate which foods would be nice to try or a suggestion of good dishes and a similar comparison of taste or dish so the customer can began to relate taste or get a idea of what to expect. Instead the host makes you decifer the menu, then gets annoyed exponentially with each question you ask. The experience was unreal. The attitude by the host was definitely like you should just sit down spin the wheel and pick something quick and be prepared for a surprise. If you find yourself dissatisfied, tough luck, pay and get on. The atmosphere coupled with the horribly uninviting host and pathetic meme made this dine in trip very quick. When I say quick I mean quick to grab your stuff and not eat here. I took my business and ran. I was not about to be regretting eating at this "restaurant" as I was already unfortunate to have walked in to this establishment. I took my dining experience elsewhere as I knew nothing but dissatisfaction was...
Read moreA few years ago, I thought this place was decent. Service was also decent. However, recently, I have been experiencing terrible service and have been treated very poorly by the family who runs this middle Eastern food, operation. The dad and his three sons. The youngest one with the lighter blondish hair works the counter.. Every time I ask him for something whether I’m dining in or out with or without friends, he walks away, making a comment like oh my gosh! under his breath, but loud enough that I can hear. Today I confronted him and asked him why he says that ? He said because he makes too many trips. Which I can’t agree with… I told him it was a restaurant and he should be service orientated .This evening I called to talk to the owner his dad... I had a very hard time on the phone with the youngest son asking for his dad. One of his older brothers picked the phone up and kept asking me my name.. So I gave it to him and he told me I was a bad customer and he doesn’t want me to come back. I was shocked ! absolutely shocked. Women in their eyes must be highly disregarded. I believe this restaurant has issues. I have spent thousands of dollars bringing in friends and tipped well. Always smiled and have been more than generous and nice to them. They are a Middle Eastern restaurant owned and operated. Their food is decent. However, the service and treatment I receive is unacceptable . I will no longer support this local restaurant. I am a senior woman that has had it to...
