Cabanon Palace — Restaurant in Đà Nẵng

A very special restaurant, indeed!

Normally I’ll wait until the second visit and reserve my judgement on a restaurant, but in this case, the venue is too notable to not give an opinion.

It’s with a great sigh of relief that we can finally eat well in Da Nang.

Cabanon Palace is a restaurant that takes hundreds of years of notable food experience in the French Riviera and adapts it to the local terroir.

Imagine trying to make a bouillabaisse stock and, through research and discussion with family back home, finding out that the original recipe called for crab, not fish.

Vietnam is a great place to find ingredients that are no longer available in France, making this restaurant the perfect set up for learning, growing, experimenting and also preserving history.

Chef Hélio’s background with one of the premier food suppliers in Vietnam is also a great bonus. Everything will always be fresh, high quality and proper.

In the end, I enjoyed a 4 course dégustation, 1,100,000 VND and kicked in for the wine pairing, 600,000 VND. Reasonable.

In terms of the location, it’s in the rather plain Cordial Grand Hotel on the 21st floor. The restaurant is definitely mismatched for this property but don’t let that dissuade you.

From the 21st floor, you get a decent 360° view of Da Nang and the restaurant is reasonably decorated with artifacts and memorabilia from the family home back in France.

It’s very classy while maintaining an air of unpretentiousness, and I appreciate that, especially in a city where chefs of a lower calibre sneer down their plates at the customers while overcharging everywhere they can. This place is solid and humble.

Would I come back? Absolutely. The whole menu bodes...

Definitely 5 stars for this place! Easy to book online and their customer service Luu is very responsive, helpful and warm. We are already impressed before we visit the restaurant.

After arriving at the restaurant, we are greeted by the manager and his team. He explains both the food and drink menu very nicely. Their staff is helpful as well in offering to help us take many pictures of the sunset (which is amazing!).

Food is excellent as well - must try the slow cooked lamb which is cooked using their family recipe and the meat is so tender and the sauce is so good. The crab bisque that everyone recommends is very nice as well. They have a good wine collection. We order a Chateau du Pape for very good value.

Their chef also shows his hospitality by coming out and spending some time to chat with us and share with us the story about the restaurant. We really feel the warmth and hospitality by the restaurant.

We come here to celebrate our anniversary and they are so nice that they even prepare a card with our picture on it (they took the picture using their phone when they helped us take pictures earlier during sunset, saying it’s for their restaurant promotion but it’s actually for the card! So sweet!).

We were here for the oysters and it did not disappoint. We ordered the 6 pcs n356 discovery and 6pcs of n2 to try, along with crab bisque. The wine vinegar sauce was lovely, oysters fresh and flavourful. Plane-shipped from France. Made our night. The atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant was exquisite. The skyline was beautiful at sunset hours and it was the definition of a romantic candle light dinner. In my opinion indoor and outdoor were both lovely, tasteful choice of deco and lighting. Service was great, the staff/owners come and explain the menu to you, and are patient with your questions. Menu had an artistic design. Lovely!

The restaurant is a family-owned bistro, and they are from southern France/the French Riveria? If you’re looking to dine and wine, and spend a splendid evening somewhere and enjoy authentic French cuisine, this is a lovely pick for a family night out, a date night or a solo night to look at the skyline and sip your wine. 🍷🥂 They open from 5pm-10pm.
