After 5 days in Da Nang, I wanted to take a break from vietnamese food so I went there. Probably shouldn’t have.

Food is so so, actually more korean style so I dont get the name Tokyo Grill. Abundant choices, that’s a plus. Could have been more helpful if they specify which types of marinate sauces used on the meat. We ordered a combo that came with wild boar, goat and lamb. Boar and goat tasted almost the same as they used the same gochujang sauce for marinate. Lamb was slightly more distinct, but not much impressive either. I had better korean bbq in europe.

Service was mediocre. I mean services in Da Nang are generally meh, but this one reaches a new low. They had an army of staff which seemed ineffective and unbothered at best. They didnt have a roster to define which one serves which tables, so they just roamed around, casually stopped by the table, turning the food on the grill without saying a single word. We noticed the fire was uneven, so I told the guy who was grilling our meat at that time, and he answered that one side of the grill plate didn’t work because they havent fixed it yet. All the waiters/waitresses came by our table afterwards kept tossing the meat towards the broken side, and we had to tell every single one of them that it didnt work (and then they stopped abruptly and walked away without a single word). They just weirded us out with their zombie attitude. There was no language barrier either because I’m freaking vietnamese!

They also brought out some so-called appetizers at the beginning (kimchi + surimi crab sticks), and conveniently didnt mention that it’s not on the house. Normal korean restaurants serve free side dishes (banchan) so I made a wrong assumption...

Staff cannot speak english, even easy words, so they had to call manager everytime when we wanted to ask something. We’ve been there 3 hour before close time. They seems to look annoyed when we wanted to sit alone at the table for 2 and not together with another very loud customers. We ordered sushi, after 15mins of waiting waitress came back telling us there’s no sushi left (never happened to us anywhere even when we go there 1 hour before close time) We ordered meat for BBQ. After a while manager came to us telling us there’s no coals for bbq, so they will bring us already done meat. We were ok with that as we understand it could happen as it was near to the end of open time. But 5mins after they bring coals to a group of new coming customers (?!) We get 600g of meat and side dish for 2 to eat with the meat which include 4 leafs of salad, 3 stripes of cucumber and 3 stripes of carrot. We asked to get a little bit more of salad as it wasn’t enough for eating with the meat. We get the “there’s no left” again AND guess what..10mins after they bring a plate full of salad to another table with group of customers again! So we had to finish a plate with the rest of 500g meat alone! no one care at all and ignoring us untill we pay. We left with feelings of being discriminated of ordering less then bigger groups...annoyed by their service. For the amount that we paid there we could get better meal...

We found this place just by chance and luckily we did so. From afar it looked like a busy place and can smell of the bbq wafting by.

The staff were very friendly and had us seated very quickly. Their attentiveness was also highly regarded and there was always someone around to help us with anything.

The menu had a wide selection of bbq meat where you cooked on the grill set in the tables. There's also good selection of sushi and other specialty dishes.

We chose the beef ribs, tuna and mackerel Sashimi and peppered frogs.

The highlight was definitely the ribs which were succulent and dipped in the teriyaki sauce was delicious!

The sushi however didnt seem as fresh, the mackerel was nice but bit too salty for our taste and the tuna had a broken down texture and lacked colour.

The frog dish, though was quite tasty, didn't work as it was too dry and subtle in flavour. Also it included lots of fried tofu which seems simply to bulk the dish up more than anything as they tasty bland.

Overall the service and atmosphere together with the theatre of the bbq/grill this made a...
