Merely a short stroll from my homestay in Hoi An, this hidden cafe, Ba Trồng, offers a reprieve from the scorching sun. The cafe is pleasantly 'dilapidated' and evokes the saudade of nostalgia. The cracked walls and lush greens provided by trees, potted plants, and dangling greens create a serene ambience, enhanced with sentimental Vietnamese music. The extreme heat in Hoi An is alleviated by the presence of powerful fans and jets of mist. My wife and I greatly savour the ambience. However, the cả phê sữa đá ( iced coffee with condensed milk) is unfortunately lacking in coffee aroma, solely bitter and falls short of our expectations. It’s been a month since Hoi An and I still think about this cafe. Not to be over the top, but no where else has come close. After getting a coffee everyday in town this, cafe was so refreshing. A cool and calm atmosphere with a lot of character as well as some nice dogs. Plus, not mention quality coffee for half the price. It’s the perfect place to escape the heat or have some time to yourself. Whilst I think every coffee drinker in Hoi An should know about Ba Trong, I don’t want it to lose its hidden...
