The BBQ snapper in banana leaf is simply sublime :) This is from 2019 update below: we dined one warm evening at a table on the sand, among local folk at long tables heaving with empty beer cans and consumed seafood feasts. That’s always a sign of good things to come.
This visit in 2023, we had the same basic meal, grilled fish in banana leaf, a bowl of morning glory steamed with garlic, and a bowl of rice.
Again this mini feast was simply sublime. The recently swimming fish is plucked from a seawater tank, butterflied, and set between banana leaves on a very hot charcoal grill, then it’s flipped to finish and served.
The result is crispy on the outside and succulent in the middle. Having worked up an appetite riding from central Hoi An then body surfing two footers for an hour on the restaurants beach, I fell on the fish like a crazed man.
My job is to take care of the other parts, the head, tail and fins, which of course are the equal to the tender flesh on the side, especially if one likes the crunchy, fiddly bits and the cheeks, brows and eyes. The banana leaf imparts fragrance and smokiness. It’s simply the best.
Next visit: off season lobster, bbq squid and tiger prawns,...
Read moreThis place is made up, clearly overrated and too many partnerships with local drivers, or hotels trying to boost its notoriety. I have been there once, thanks to the hotel recommendation, what a mistake. It’s been now 3 months am living around and I do realise the rip off it is. Excessive , very excessive price for the food. I had a fish, a whole one, don’t remember the name, but it costs me nearly 600k … and I came alone you know, the fish grilled in your plate. That’s it. Bon appétit mon ami. No come on, you cannot do that. Fruit juices, 2 times the regular average price as well. Look at the review the way they are left, a full group (brought by a bus) will be invited to leave a 5* based on what, based on someone pushing them to do so. Please, it doesn’t work like that. Start refreshing and make the place look nice, really work in the kitchen to do better, and then you will make a...
Read moreThe WORST experience I had in Vietnam, we were taken there by a grab driver, after telling us the restaurant we requested was closed due to high winds. It was a very sketchy place, with little to no customers. Food was extremely expensive for even small quantities and they allowed salespeople to come right up to our table to sell souvenirs. The squid was so rubbery that I couldn’t bite into it, the fried rice and barbecue fish were bland and not edible. Overall the cleanliness was incredibly lacking with a literal wooden stick in our water, and an open tiny kitchen. Attaching pictures so you can see what I mean. Beware of fake...
