Went to this restaurant based on Google’s super high rating but I am so sad to say that it ended up being the worst meal in our 10day vacation through Saigon, Da Nang, Ba Na Hills, Lang Co and Hoi An. :( We knew the lady chef owner cooks very slowly (based on all the reviews) but the long long wait for the food is really ridiculous especially since there were no other customers when we arrived at 5.55pm. After we were told to write our own orders on a piece of paper and submitted it to her, it took half an hour before the drinks were served. That was followed by the appetiser (fried spring rolls). My husband’s order came another half an hour later (by then he was starving), mine 20 mins after his, and my son’s order only arrived at 7.30pm after my husband and I had eaten… All throughout the wait, we were fending off mosquitoes…(my son got bitten as soon as he arrived- and the smiley lady boss quickly told us to spray on mosquito repellent). What made it worst was the food was no where near as delicious as raved about by other reviewers. I am seriously wondering why(?)…especially since it took so long to be prepared… The braised pork was not actually braised pork. It was slices of dry pork - made dryer by the sizzling pot. The vegetarian vermicelli was oily, not tasty and the vermicelli itself had not been stirred fried properly so was clumped together. The fried beancurd strips were stale. The fried seafood noodles was just instant noodles and the ‘seafood’ in it was merely four measly shrimps. It looked really pathetic. Had the food been great, it would have made the long long wait more worth it. We still cannot understand how an experienced cook requires so much time to prepare such simple dishes that would take no more than 10-15minutes per stirred-fried dish to whip up as that’s the time we normally take to cook such dishes when we are back at home. (Doesn’t she prep the ingredients before hand long before meal times?) With just two precious days in Hoi An, we truly regretted going there. The one star is for the drinks (avocado smoothie and bubble tea with pearls) which were good. When we were leaving, the only other diners in the restaurant (an elderly Caucasian couple) were still waiting for their food. They looked really glum. I cannot imagine how long the wait would be if there were more diners… Perhaps those who are still keen to try out this restaurant should just stick to ordering Hoi An Specialities… MAYBE it’ll make the super long wait more worth it make sure to eat something first before going and not be hungry wear long pants and long sleeve tops to protect against the mosquitoes ensure you have plenty of time to spare in Hoi...
Read moreI’m not sure how many reviews I’ve done in my life, but easy to say not many. That is, until I discovered Thanh Restaurant and the owner, Yan.
The food here is spectacular, the price is honestly unfair at how cheap it is. From incredible Cao Lau, to delicious Braised Pork and Rice, to bangin’ coffee… This place has it all. The most remarkable thing about this place though is the love you feel when meeting Yan, and you can taste the love within the food. Remember grandma’s cooking? That’s this place. Every. Single. Time.
I lived in Hoi An for a month and during my time I explored and ate food all over, but this was a constant for me. I cannot recommend this place enough and she honestly deserves all the customers she can handle.
I regrettably only had the ability to force myself to pause and take a picture of one meal, as once it’s placed in front of me I devour it.
So take my word, visit Thanh, enjoy taking some time and not being in a rush, and experience some amazing food in an...
Read moreThanh Restaurant & Cafe is always a pleasure to visit and have a meal, a snack, or a drink. The service provided by the lady owner is always cheerful and friendly. Thanh's menu has a great selection of beverages (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic) and foods (both local Vietnamese and Western cuisines) all at reasonable prices. The Banh Xeo served here is rather excellent, as well as the Chocolate & Coconut Ice Blended Milkshake. Over the last few years, when visiting Hoi An, I always drop in to say high and have something to eat and drink. Thanh's is also pet friendly, which is great for me as I travel with my dog. Now that the new bridge is open from Cam Chau, Thanh's is easily accessible from all directions. There are fans, plenty of tables & chairs and free WiFi plus a TV that you can watch special sports events. Thanh's is definitely worth visiting...
