An incredible sample of Ukraine in Hanoi!
A great little spot hidden away in Tay Ho with a fantastic outdoor eating area set amongst a tree lined outdoor courtyard. I've visited this restaurant many times over the years living in Hanoi.
Have tried and recommend the borsch soup, Russian salad, chicken Kiev cutlet, Ukrainian pork chop (with mushrooms, tomato and cheese), pork rolls (with mushroom and cheese), lamb shashlik plus the sides of boiled potato (with butter and greens) and the mashed potato.
Personal favourite is the Ukrainian pork chop. The pork is mouthwateringly tender, crumbed and topped with a sweet layer of sour cream, mushrooms and tomatoes drizzled with a little olive oil. With the potatoes and bread on the side the entire ensemble was topped with chopped dill that gave it a fresh tang.
All excellent fare and perfect portion sizes as these dishes are very rich but satisfying.
Great range of vodkas (try the pine needle!) and locally made kvass. Draught beer is a Czech pilzner which comes by the half or full litre. Also of note is the designated grill chef preparing shashlik skewers over hot charcoal as you enter.
Excellent location, decor and value for money. Highly...
Read moreI’m Ukrainian, and was so excited to go this place. Few things why I’m disappointed: 1) we order herring(селедка) from the menu, and get the mackerel(скумбрия), without any attempts. After we asked about it, staff just let us know that’s is not a big difference, but it is, it’s a totally different fish and meal; 2) we order black “borodynskiy” bread, for 65,000 vnd/portion, and get not fresh, few days of life white bread :); 3) pickled mushrooms wasn’t pickled, it was even hot, looks like them just boiled few minutes ago; 4) salo wasn’t frozen, it was melted, like they keep it without any refrigerator. I leave 3 stars rate, because vareniki and draniki was good. Guys, owners, as I know, you are Ukrainians, you know the original taste. Even if your chefs is Vietnamese, you should teach them, provide original recipes... And don’t try to fraud your customers. Very high prices for Vietnam, but quality is not thats...
Read moreThis place is definitely NOT one of my favorite places to eat anymore. We’ve been eating at this restaurant for the last 4 years and everything was great, but I can’t say the same about our last visits. 1. There’s lots of fat in shashlyk, but before there was only meat. 2. The food tastes dull,, it’s under salted. 3. there was a mosquito or another insect right on the bread (looked like it was there for a long time). It was disgusting to see it when I was about to bite a piece. And it’s not for the first time when we see something that shouldn’t be in the food. What happened to this place?! It’s not street food, it’s a restaurant. Staff even doesn’t look at what they’re serving. Or they just don’t care. Moreover, I didn’t feel well after eating at this restaurant. P.S. I have nothing against Ukraine, just telling what we’ve experienced. watch out for what you’re...
