I was concerned with parking, so I tried this through Grab. If you are walking distance from here, I don't believe you will be disappointed.
Unfortunate, but in general, I think bánh mìs are only okay. Some are better than others, and I usually just like egg ones.
However, the sandwiches I had here (1 Japanese tuna & 1 truffle mushroom egg) were both quite good. I haven't seen any other place sell a truffle egg one, and most don't sell tuna.
The quality of the tuna tasted like one I might find in Korea. The truffle egg was unique; it was nice and warm. The flavors for both were better suited for western/non-Vietnamese palates. They did not have the typical V stuffing or sauces. Both were heavy with mayo (normally, I'm not a fan, but it was good here).
Standard bánh mì size.
These are 2-3x most bánh mìs, though. I'm used to getting egg ones from street carts for 12-18K or from restaurants for 20-40K. These were 59K/$2.30 each. *There was a small discount đ5,900 on Grab (when I ordered) & another đ10K off the total, but with the Grab fee, I still paid more for 2 bánh mìs than I normally would pay.
I still definitely recommend the truffle egg. Next time, I will try the...
Read moreTRULY you can't tell me otherwise that this clean, air-conditioned restaurant serves affordable and one of the best composition of ingredients of banh mi.
We came here every morning we stayed in HCM. Get the original Grandma Lu Banh mi at 49k vnd. It will blow your mind. They open at 6am. The French breadstick is also very nice 35k vnd, it is a slimmer baguette which is easier to bite into, and does not have vegetables.
Staff speak good English and are always kind to ask if you consume coriander or spice.
Only 1 minor comment is that they don't mix the vegetables with the meat, so everytine you bite into one side of the baguette, you only ever put either meat, or vegetable into your mouth. This is just me being picky.
Their egg coffee is great and the iced latte was decent.
Inside the restaurant is an entrance to a hotel, so...
Read moreWe’re by no means banh mi experts, but after trying several spots in Ho Chi Minh City, Grandma Lu was hands down our favorite. So much so that we came back three times during our five-day stay!
The sandwiches are absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Our top picks were the Grandma, Pulled Chicken, and Tuna—each one packed with bold flavors and the perfect crunch from the baguette.
The shop itself could use a little TLC when it comes to decor, but honestly, that just adds to its charm. At the end of the day, it’s all about the food, and Grandma Lu delivers in the best way possible. If you’re in HCMC and craving banh mi, this spot is...
