Bo Kho Co Mai — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

I usually don't like to write bad reviews, but this is by far the worst "bo kho" I ever had. All these 5* reviews are foreigners who don't know what good "bo kho" is. The broth is ridiculously sweet, and that's it, with zero balance of taste. I added 4 limes & salt & fish sauce, and it still doesn't taste right. The beef stew were very tough, horrible. What that means is they didn't cook/stew the beef for a long time & instead use MSG & sugar & beef soup powder (knoor) to make the soup; but good "bo kho" doesn't work like that; it requires hours of cooking time. They cheated & that's why it taste horrible. The "mi" noodles was just as bad. Basically, everything is bad. I couldn't finish half the bowl. Just unimaginably bad if you have any good taste buds. Service was also horrendous. No one greets me, sat for 5 minutes, then had to go into the kitchen to ask for a menu. Then they got my order wrong; asked for "hu tieu & mi", only got "mi". All in all, one of the worst restaurant I've been to in HCMC. Won't be back, EVER. Any old lady "bo kho" in any alley would be better than this place. I visited Bò Kho Cô Mai in HCM with high hopes after seeing several glowing video reviews on social media, but it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had.

First of all, the hygiene is appalling – there were cockroaches crawling around, some dead and some very much alive. It was absolutely disgusting and completely unacceptable for a food establishment.

After eating there, I ended up with a stomach ache – clearly the food is not handled or prepared safely. Speaking of the food, it was nothing special – very ordinary and bland, definitely not worth the hype or the risk to your health.

To top it all off, the service was terrible – staff were inattentive, unfriendly, and seemed annoyed to be dealing with customers at all.

I seriously regret going there. If you care about your health, cleanliness, and decent service, do yourself a favor and skip this place. Don’t believe everything you see on...

Nice little restaurant next to Bitexco Building 🗼 ✅🍲 Bánh mì bò kho was decent. Tendon was just right but the meat was a bit tougher than other places I've eaten at. Needs more time to stew on the stove to make it a little bit softer. Very fresh herbs and carrots in the stew was perfect. ✅ Decor was very different and looks like they put some effort into setting it up. ✅ Waiter/waitress will let you eat in peace and don't come back to ask anything. ❌ Some people would prefer the waiter/waitress to check up on you if you need anything else.
