Hoang Yen Vietnamese Cuisine — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

The restaurant was a little tricky to find as the row of restaurants are facing the lake and above the residences next to Crescent Mall. Decor and Ambience on 2nd floor with a good view if the lake suits business meals while more casual open air dining on ground floor is also available.

Photos show what we ordered and the best item is the morning glory with garlic. Fresh, naturally sweet and succulent.👍👍👍 Service was good. My colleague doesn't eat beef and seafood, so the chef substituted with chicken with the salad served with black sesame crackers. 👍👍👍 The rice cooked in chicken broth came encased in a crispy layer of bake rice. 👍👍👍. The roasted chicken with mantou bun could have benefitted from more seasoning and was a little dry. 👍 My lemon grass, mint, lime soda was refreshing. Friend's lemon grass, lime, mint and ginger also a hit.

Im not satisfied with the service and the foods. Firstly, the foods are either too salty or not tasty, however the steamed fish hongkong style is not bad. Second, we reserved a private however it is hardly to see the waiter/waitress around us, as we have to keep going out from our room to find the staffs. Also, with minimum charges 4.5m vnd, instead of encouraging/suggesting us to order more food, the restaurant decided to charge us extra 500k because we spent under 4m at the end of the night. The worst food… We didn’t expect much from this restaurant but we were shocked just how bad it was (and my gf is Vietnamese). Fried rice was dry and tasteless with barely any seafood. I asked the manageress for a bowl of simple chicken broth / soup to eat with the dry rice but she refused insisting we just purchase additional soup.
