Mkitchen - Ẩm Thực Truyền Thống Malaysia & Singapore — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

Came here bcoz my Vietnamese partner was craving Assam Laksa and did not disappoint! Honestly ordered way too much food for two people but because they had every Malaysian dish on the menu, and everything looked mouth-wateringly good so we wanted to try everything. We ended up getting the Assam Laksa as well as Otak-Otak, Char Koay Kak and Claypot Loh Shu Fun and have to say we were thoroughly impressed how authentic the dishes, especially the Char Koay Kak, which had the ‘wok hei’. Even the sambal chilli had belacan taste. Most importantly, the Assam Laksa got my partner’s approval :) The food here reminded me so much of home, honestly even better than some of the hawker food offerings in KL. Came here at around 6PM so it was not very crowded and we were seated quickly.

We had a Curry Laksa, a Fish Soup Bee Hoon, a Vegetable curry and a Rojak Buah fruit salad. The Laksa was pretty authentic, and we really enjoyed the Fish Soup with its umami yet sour-ish taste (thanks to the tamarind and picked cabbage). The Rojak Buah was an interesting mix of vegetable i.e cucumber, and fruits like guava and mango all mixed up in a savory & spicy sauce (though I have to warn you that the dish itself is quite filling so you may need to consider before ordering it with the other main dishes).

Overall, it was a pretty good experience, and we'd definitely be back to sample...

We ordered three dishes: the black carrot cake was quite good, and the nasi lemak with chicken had flavorful rice, but the chicken was dry. The beef satay was tough and chewy, with a rather average taste—nothing particularly memorable.

Unfortunately, the dining experience was further marred by an unpleasant odor upon entering the restaurant. The owner and her friends were seated nearby, speaking loudly throughout our meal, which made it hard to enjoy the atmosphere. Most concerningly, they were smoking cigarettes indoors in an air-conditioned space, despite the presence of my 4-year-old child.
