New Malabar Kitchen — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

I had high expectations for my meal here, but left deflated.

The food portions were very generous, but the quality was average. The happy and friendly staff were great. The attention to detail was also average.

For starters, I ordered the chicken 65 and chicken samosas. The chicken 65 plate was plentiful and very nicely spiced and was the best part of my meal. The samosas were OK.

Complimentary popadoms were given, which were quite nice. The two dipping sauces were average.

For my main meal, I ordered a chicken kurma and rice. The kurma came as three pieces of chicken 'on the bone', which wasn't what was expected and hard to eat with a fork and spoon. The chicken itself wasn't very good quality. The bowl of rice was huge and I didn't even get to eat half of it.

As I was the only person in the restaurant, the staff were extremely friendly and talkative and must be given 5 stars.

At 400,000 (£13) it was good value for the quantity, but not the quality...

Disappointment is an understatement, the Google reviews are probably given by friends, definitly not from genuine customer experience.

Food we ordered was below average with meat pieces to be 1/4 of a bite size (almost like shredded meat). Same curry base with different names given to it. Nothing extraoridnary.

There were random people walking in and out of the kitchen and peaking into the dining area, making the customers feel uncomfortable. No wonder, there weren't many customers.

The wait staff had zero customer service skills (not even a smile) , straight death stares, wearing unwashed clothes.

The restaurant had zero vibe, no music or just plain dull dining experience.

Not to mention getting food poisioning the next day from poor food handelling and untrained staff.

It appeared this restaurant only caters to certain type of ethnic people, definitely not for trourists.

Avoid this restaurant and save yourselves from...

Заказали доставку с этого ресторана. Очень люблю Масала чай, прислали обычный очень крепкий чай с молоком😖 даже сахара не положили. Пить было не возможно, как чифир. Вылила в унитаз этот чай. Сырная лепёшка(наан), вся подгорелая и настолько, что просто лепешка превратилась в очень сухую лепёшку, которая может порезать рот. Сыр просто отвратительно пах, думаю, что сыр был испорченный. Лепёшку выкинула в мусорку.

We ordered delivery from this restaurant. I really love Masala Tea, they sent regular very strong tea with milk😖 they didn't even add sugar. It was impossible to drink, like chifir. I poured this tea into the toilet. The cheese flatbread (naan) was all burnt and so much so that the flatbread turned into a very dry flatbread that could cut your mouth.
