DO NOT BOOK WITH HOST MS. TRACY / THE DIAMOND APARTMENT
This place is a big modern apartment block with several apartments being let out by different owners. It’s in a great location for seeing HCMC. Judging by the many positive reviews, there are legitimate owners operating here with cool apartments. And some owners that are just here to double and triple book and rip people off. Unfortunately, our experience was not a good one. We booked a one night stay to finish our awesome 2-week family holiday. We booked via booking.com, it was confirmed quickly and we had contact with the host - Ms. Tracy. The apartment we booked was called Diamond. When we turned up, we were told the booking did not exist. I tried to call the owner - only to find it’s a fake number that does not receive calls. The receptionist couldn’t do anything to help us - she was there representing the building, not the owners, and just had a printed out list with the bookings for that day. She said she was not able to give an alternative contact number for the owner. I called Booking.com customer service who couldn’t reach the owner by phone either - but were helpful through the day in arranging a no-charge cancellation (otherwise we would have been charged the full non-refundable fee). Booking.com forwarded me the owner’s email response which was a pack of lies - they said our booking was confirmed and we had turned up too early and were told to come back at 3pm to check in. All in all, pretty stressful and I wish I had read the Google reviews beforehand. The booking.com reviews are positive - I guess because you can only leave a review if you stayed there. You can’t leave a review if your booking was ultimately cancelled on the platform, as ours was. If you’re thinking of booking these apartments, do your homework first and make sure the...
Read moreThe cons - So we didn't get the rooms pictured in the photos when booking. Not well maintained, more then possibly a specky joint at one time but not looked after properly.
Warped cupboard doors, marble pieces falling off bench tops, power points falling off, missing and bypassed altogether with appliances wired into wires hanging out of the wall.
Booking in was a pain in the arse with us eventually getting in at around 4pm, not good when its hot and you have 3 kids.
Pool has no steps and a wonky ladder plus to get access to it you have to go down to ground level and get security to use their card in the elevator so you can get to the top floor, plus sign some sort of wavier. Just doesn't make sense when only people with key tags that are staying at the place can access the elevators anyway. I really cannot see why they make you go through this process.
Clean as much as clean can be expected, it has just not been properly cleaned over the years making some things look grotty and worn, but if you have traveled in certain countries it is not something unusual.
Beds apart from one double were rock hard. Lucky I nabbed the good bed just by sheer luck, other family members had shocking sleeps.
Not much around eating wise, pizza across the road which was expensive, a Thai restaurant which mainly had seafood and with one of us being highly allergic this place was a no. The markets and beer street are close but you have to cross major roads with mega traffic.
The pros - spacious, air cons working well, bedding and towels nice, bathrooms good with great showers. Balcony with great views. Security were helpful in taking bags up and down, we did tip them though. Would I stay...
Read moreMy family and I stayed in suit 11.1B of The One Building for 4 days. The location is good and very convenient. However, my stay was bad. I rented it on the website VRBO at a price of $129 USD per night for 6 people. It was a bit pricey, but I trusted what they showed me in the pictures. This suit is actually just a luxury 1 bed room apartment that the owner tried to convert so more people can stay there. The main bedroom is nice, but the 2nd bed they put in the sitting room with the curtain and the other bed was just a mattress that was put on the floor in front of the kitchen. The 2nd bathroom was just half the restroom with extra shower and it didn't work like a bath. When we used it, the water overflowed and we had to wait at least 20 mins for the water to release after each person took a shower, we had to use two towels to stop the flooding and they charged me almost 20 USD for those towels because they got dirty. I would rather rent a less fancy place that had enough place for comfort than wasting time to take a shower and having to sleep on the floor. And finally, we were to pay tip if we received good service rather what they expected from us. In the pictures below, both the mattress and bed were in the sitting room in front of...
