Cons: The major (and only) con I’ve ever run into here, twice now, is a shoe cleaning scam. If you are a foreigner, they will make a casual beeline toward you and either 1. compliment your shoes and ask to take a look, or 2. make a “ew” face and start cleaning them immediately. The first time this happened, I said no three times but they chased me down anyways, and a local I was chatting with ended up making him only charge me around 60,000vnd. The next time I went, the man was so aggressive he would let me go, and basically tore off my sandal and wouldn’t give it back. He installed and shaved down new ankles for my birkenstocks, though I repeatedly told him not to, and stated countless times that I had no money. From there the park stretches across almost to Mach's Gym. One can walk through Tao Dan Park, across the road to the park of statues through to the road on which Mach's Gym is located. The park itself has a nice temple located near to the Bui Thi Xuan street entrance along with a hiking statue. There's a perimeter path which is very popular with walkers in the evening whom seem to walk in an anti clockwise direction. There are also a couple of paths which criss cross the oval from the various entrances. Shade is provided by mature trees for the most part and there's a section containing exercise equipment. A few band stands are dotted around the park as well as two or so soft drinks outlets. The park can become flooded in the wet season. During the Tết holiday the park is inundated with hundreds of bonsai trees, wood carvings, prize fish species, cacti, water features, floral garden beds and various vendors. It's a great place to visit as is the park of statues, Mach's Gym, and the sports shops on the way to the gym. It's also not far from Ben Thanh Market or Minh...
