San Fu Lou is a cantonese kitchen just around the side of Crescent mall. Food here has always been spectacular. Amount of oil in their food has been an issue but besides that i’ve always had a good experience here. Staff is always helpful and friendly. While I was here, I had the soy milk bubble tea, crab and corn soup, shrimp dumplings, seafood congee. My dad had a fresh coconut, sweet and sour soup, roasted duck, and choy sum. For the drinks, they were standard. I mean, you don’t need a Michelin starred chef to serve a coconut. My bubble tea was nice. I recommend the normal-milk bubble tea if you really want something nice. It’s the best bubble tea I’ve ever had. I always order the crab and corn soup when I come here. It’s always consistent and there are generous amounts of crab inside. The corn is creamy which adds a nice touch. Let’s talk about my seafood congee. Oh boy, what a let down. I was expecting something fantastic, instead I got an overly-huge bowl of goop. The portion was insane. I could feed three people with it. The consistency was like glue. I was trying to tell myself that the thicker it was the better but I couldn’t bring myself to it. It came with little to no toppings and was the most bland thing I had ever tasted. After I added some soy sauce it was bearable. There were a few scallops inside. No comment on those, they were pretty standard. The shrimp had an odd taste. I had a feeling they weren’t fresh. Two hefty pieces of squid were inside. I couldn’t eat them. They were like erasers - really damn chewy. Now for the shrimp dumplings. They were really hot. Emphasis on “really”. Whenever you tried to pick them up the rice skin would just break and melt off. The amount of oil there was also made it hard. The shrimp was cooked well and tasted good. Eat with soy sauce. The choy sum was standard with a lot of garlic. The sweet and sower soup was packed with vegetables and tasted good. The duck was cooked well with just the right amount of sauce to not make it too sweet. it was not hot enough so we asked for a re-fire and it came back drier than before - a bit more tough. Still tasted good though. The skin wasn’t crispy which was disappointing. I will 100% come back here. I am always happy leaving this restaurant and highly recommend checking it out. Oh, it’s a bit pricey. Forget that though, it’s about the food. And when it come to food, this place has...

Food is decent but honestly not very competitive for dimsum in HCMC

Milk Tea: The milk tea is pretty good. You can definitely taste the tea flavor, and the boba texture is very chewy and doesn't taste like it's been sitting around for long at all. Dim Sum Dumplings: The dim sum dumplings were pretty good. I especially liked the seafood ones. However, I'm not a big fan of the duck mushroom dumpling; the skins are a little too soft and tend to break open easily when you touch them with chopsticks. Milk Tea Cup: The milk tea cup design is a bit impractical. The straw length is almost exactly the same height as the cup, making it quite difficult to drink from the bottom. Fried Rice Rolls: The fried rice rolls were surprisingly good. It's essentially a stir-fried roll of rice flour, but the flavor is quite nice, and the texture has a pleasant crunch on the outside. Seafood Fried Rice: I also enjoyed the seafood fried rice. The flavor was just right, and there was a decent amount of seafood inside. Green Beans: The green beans were well-made in terms of texture, but they really lacked any flavor. It mostly just tasted like oil. Would not recommend. Pork Ribs: The pork ribs were fine, pretty standard. Nothing to complain...

Not a good experience here for me!!!! I went and book the table for lunch here the day before and purposely ask if there are dimsum and hotpot here even for Lunch!!! Because my wife wants dimsum and I want to eat hotpot since I saw the menu online that they have hotpot. So the waiter told me "Yes"!!! So when I get there, I asked for the hotpot menu since I only saw the dimsum menu, then they told me this location don't have hotpot. I was so mad, first your waiter say yes to me now said they don't offer hotpot here. Fine!!!! I mean I am already in the restaurant already, I then eat dim sum with my wife, but when we start to look at the order paper, half of the dimsum sections were crossed out and the waitress told us Because they are changing menu that's why half of the section crossed out!!!! HUH!!!!!!! This is ridiculous, changing menu is one thing, if u did not change yet, you should continue selling it, instead just cross out half of the section, and end up not much to select. NO POINT OF EATING ANYMORE!!!! SO WE...

Congrats San Fu Lou for being on my Top 3 Not To Go Restaurants in Vietnam list. (The other 2 are Tous les Jours and Lotteria). Being a Chinese, I'm appalled by the the taste of the food from this restaurant at Crescent Mall. None of the food are satisfactory, Chicken rice set the rice is mushy, chicken I cook at home have better taste than theirs, just boiled chicken. Boiled kailan smothered with tasteless assorted mushrooms sauce. Their sweet vinegar pork rib uses cheap rib parts, boiled and coated with the vinegar sauce, the meat is tasteless without the sauce. The most ridiculous is the roasted pork, have you tried a piece of a biteful roast pork that looks roasted on all sides? It's clearly deep fried rather than roasted. We asked the waitress and they still said it's roasted. Owner of San Fu Lou should be ashamed of himself for selling this kind of Chinese food standard. I didn't want to take nice pictures of the photo because the food was really bad. Doesn't worth my effort to composite them nicely.
