we came to this place on the recommendation of friends, they said that the tom yum here is very tasty, but we immediately refused the soup when we saw the tom yum itself in the photo on the menu - the shrimp had not been peeled from the shell or the insides, not strained from inedible galangal and ginger broth, in general the plate contained 80% inedible seasonings and shrimp remains.
We ordered the following dishes:
pandan chicken - the complete lack of marinade with citrus fruits turned this chicken into the driest place on the planet, it is fried so much that apart from the taste of oil from deep frying, you don’t feel anything, an absolutely terrible dish.
Next was glass noodles with seafood, well, as with seafood, one ring of squid, a quarter of a shrimp and a microscopic octopus, this is all seafood per serving, and the taste of glass noodles reminded me of emptiness, it simply wasn’t there, due to the fact that it wasn’t added to the dish not a drop of sauce, and the noodles were simply boiled in water without any spices.
Next was Massaman chicken curry, I’ve never seen curry with the consistency of soup, but it’s forgivable, but everything else is terrible, the set of spices for curry is absolutely inappropriate and just an incredible amount of cinnamon kills the taste of everything else, since the curry was made in the form of soup, onions and peanuts they were not fried, but boiled, which is why they had absolutely no taste, the chicken in this curry only took on the taste of cinnamon and not the only edible thing for the evening, it was snakehead fish with lime and chili pepper, it was really tasty, but because... for your serving, entirely with head and tail, on a very small plate in comparison with the fish itself (and it is quite large), it was inconvenient to eat it, but this inconvenience was covered by the taste of the fish, it is really rich and deep.
A special word about the service. You will have one napkin throughout the entire meal, the waiters don’t care that the only napkin you have has already become unusable, they are interested in a new order, not your needs. The restroom is in terrible condition, dirty, uncomfortable, you can’t even close the door to the toilet stall all the way. Overall, if you don’t care about the quality of the food and are willing to pay a higher-than-average bill, and you’re also used to the lack of service and trashed restrooms, this is the...
Read moreI am never usually one to leave a bad review however, given the experience I have just had I feel I do not really have a choice. When ordering my dish of chicken and noodles I was told that there was no chicken available and that I could have prawn or beef instead with a different type of noodle. Unfortunately, I do not eat either of these proteins but when I asked for the vegetarian option with the suggested noodle I was told this was not possible either. I was constantly told that there was no chicken, yet my boyfriend ordered his chicken curry and I was pointed towards appetisers containing chicken. I asked if it was possible to combine any of this chicken with noodles instead and I was told no. I understand some dishes may contain pre-made sauces but what I gathered from the server was that all dishes are pre-made as none of them are interchangeable(?). As a last attempt I asked for a rice dish and was warned it was very spicy, I asked if it could be made any less and was again met with a no. I was confused at the situation and frustrated that the server was not helping me to understand, obviously I am understanding of a language barrier but I was met with an uninterested attitude and no attempts to resolve the problem. At this point we gave up and were laughed at as we left and asked if we would be back tomorrow. As I say, I do not usually leave a review as such but the overall hospitality was so awful and we left thoroughly...
Read moreI am not the one who usually write a review. But my experience with Sam Lor was awful. I hope my review would reach the management for Sam Lor to serve customers better. Firstly, food is not that crazy bad, but not authentic Thai food. Tom yum soup is bland, not sour at all. Some fried fish dishes are oily. The papaya salad tastes good. Drinks are too sweet. Thai curry tastes weird. Secondly, the service sucks. I would never write a review if the food is bad. Maybe someday is different than others . But horrible service is unacceptable. Let me start from the beginning. Our group is more than 10 people. We are not sure how many people going, so we, I and my husband came first and told the management that we have a group of more than 10 people. We sat, and then 10 minutes later 4 more people coming. We sat but my friends without knowing sat probably not close together . A young lady with glasses, I believe she is the store manager, approached us and raised her voice. I m not exaggerating if I say she almost yelled at us. If we don't know, she could correct us with kind manner. We would not mind about that. At that moment, I just wanted to leave. But my group has elders. We just let it be. The service in the whole dining experience has zero interest. Anyway, I have never been treated that way in any restaurant. We left no tip which has never happened . Thanks Sam Lor for such...
