Came here to celebrate my wife's birthday. We came from overseas so we searched for the best thing based on Google reviews. And was disappointed with the verdict.
As we entered the restaurant. The first off-putting thing was the awful smell of garbage. Wet garbage to be specific. Well I understand they need to throw their garbage somewhere but probably if they could throw it across the road would be great.
Next the service was wonderful. Very kind and polite staff. The young lady that assisted me because she was the only one that managed to speak English. Was very much appreciated. She was explaining the menu and the unavailability of certain dishes. To which I understand. So the saviour for a 2 star is because of the service.
Next we were waiting for our food after order. We picked a spot with a very great view but a horrendous stench of urine. Goodness me it was sooooo bad. I was wondering how could some customers handle it. But a Korean family also could not handle the smell so they moved as well. Inside where the smell was not so bad. I don't blame them for the smell it was actually the restaurant below (LAYLOW) my goodness their toilet smells so bad showing they lack cleanliness.
Food was so mediocre. My wife had fish as main & we had 2 starters. With signature cocktails. All the dishes we just acceptable nothing unique nothing worth the price. So overrated by the tourist I believe. The cocktails I read in a review was the best in phu quoc. I honestly believe the bartender needs to improve on taste. It was very kind on the alcohol but the flavour was abit underwhelming.
Conclusion: Overrated Food & Horrendous Environment. Totally killed the vibe of celebration. We found another place later after this restaurant. Hopefully the restaurant takes this as a progressive comment. And improve. I was about to spend 4mil for my wife birthday but...
Read moreRead this review with the caveat that Chuon Chuon was serving of a Tet special/reduced menu, and probably understaffed due to Tet labor issues.
Chuon Chuon is a nice place with a serious view of Phu Quoc city and the ocean beyond. It has decent atmosphere and what seems like a deliberate order management system-- staff carrying tablets for placing orders and all staff equipped with headsets. Unfortunately, for us, service was poor-- very slow and difficult to get orders in
More importantly the food was very mediocre. The menu didn't offer a lot of choices (I'm pretty sure this is because the menu was reduced for Tet) I ordered Beef Luc Lac, but the beef was tough and the sauce ho-hum. The rest of the group ordered a variety of other things, nothing was bad but nothing was particularly good either. Beer was very expensive by Vietnam's standards.
It's totally possible our visit's proximity to Tet is the most important factor in my impressions of food and service, so I may give it another shot someday. However, the only really good part of the visit today was the view-- which isn't a good enough reason to visit...
Read morePlace need a modernisation it looks very tired and unloved. Advertising as a outside bar but the bar during our visit was closed, err so the best feature of this place is not open for a public- what a bad management. Also what a respectable place asks you to go to tills to order your food and drinks, pay for it before you eat. Well Mc Donalds deliveries better service. Food despite asked to bring all together never did, certain portions arrived before the rest so naturally gone cold before the rest of us could eat, staff could bot be bothered less. You should employ people who do or make an effort and train them to understand, not to be more interested in their phones and conversation with eachother.
I am truly surprised with your high star rain as anyone with a bit of standards would not recommend this place. Apart from the view there is nothing to be recommend here, Take some actions as you have a lot to improve.
Quality of food very poor Drinks- taste like a flavoured water, very inconsistent. Or too much spirit with no taste. Service- no care staff, lack of basic language skills and most important manners...
