Fantastic stay at Saigon Phu Quoc What you need to know or may want to know: Staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful and always served with a smile. Accommodations and surrounding grounds were clean and tidy. The beach situated in front of the resort has some nice stretches - one section has some rock formations and concrete leading into the water but there are nicer sandy areas too. They have a decent sized swimming pool but when there’s a beautiful beach just a couple more steps away we didn’t find the time to try the pool. Tennis courts are also part of the facilities if you feel like picking up a racket. The gym looked like they had decent equipment and machines but we didn’t try any of them. Bicycles are free to use for guests but have seen better days. Okay for a short ride down the street but could use some new ones. The breakfast buffet. A variety of items to try and was quite enjoyable. There are Western style items like sausage (tasted more like a hotdog wiener) bacon, pancakes, cereal but I mostly stayed away from these. I found myself having a small bowl of pho almost every morning. You can choose the meat (beef slices, beef brisket, chicken, seafood, fish cake) to go with your pho and it varies morning to morning. Then top with your usual offerings of herbs and chilies. There’s also a banh mi station and an omelette / eggs cooked your way station which was always popular and busy. Fresh fruit selection was also very pleasant and I was able to have my fill of baby bananas, passion fruit, rambutans, watermelon, dragonfruit and papaya. Don’t forget to pull yourself a cup of Vietnamese coffee and sweeten it with condensed milk along with some pastry items. All and all a very enjoyable stay and I would not hesitate to visit Saigon Phu Quoc again.

Absolutely stunning resort! We stayed here for 8 nights and enjoyed each one of them. The best part of this resort is watching the sunset at the beach, enjoying the great cocktails part of the happy hour between 4 and 6. The location of the resort is optimal since its near the city, the local restaurants and the night market and is located on the end of the long beach which makes the beach not that crowded. The breakfast is great and it has an egg and phó station which was great. The staff is really friendly and service minded, we got some help to arrange a boat trip on one of the days, it all went super smooth and we got picked up from the hotel and the price was great. The rooms are clean and comfy and the garden is really beautiful. We had a full body massage at the resort's spa - it was really good and well worth the price. A few negative things: - The cleaning staff went to clean our room when we went to breakfast around 8:30 and they were not done when we got back to get ready for the beach. We had to put "do not disturb" sign when we left for breakfast the rest of the days. - Part of the beach is kind of rocky (in the water) and I cut myself on the rocks in the water a few times while swimming - gotta watch out for that. - The bartenders were sometimes a bit slow, running back and forth to get the receipts and change for the cash, they could probably have been more effective but I guess they will learn. Still 5 stars since the things mentioned above are small things compared to all the positives!

On the surface this hotel does have all the amenities to be perfect which we booked a sea view room well in advance for a week long family holiday, but as soon as we arrived, we realised the place isn’t as great as the brochures suggested. The rooms are somewhat dated which to be honest we don’t mind. The bit that I found most disappointing is the amount of rubbish (mainly plastics) floating around and washed up on the beach. Our kids ended up playing rubbish picking for fun. In less than an hour, they’ve picked up a pile of rubbish (see photo). I guess the rubbish is not the hotel’s fault as the proximity to the near city means that the rubbish dumped in the river will wash up on the beach eventually. The hotel does have staff to clean up the beach but the shear amount is just overwhelming! As the island is trying to develop itself into a holiday destination, the local government has to do something about the rubbish, particularly the amount of plastic everywhere. I am completely put off because of this. In hindsight, I would have booked somewhere more remote in hope of better water quality. The positive note is that the staff was helpful and the breakfast was decent. I just wish I can stay at the beach without the rubbish eyesore.

We have loved every second in this resort. It was the very first one on the island, 20 years ago. And let's not forget that the island didn't get electricity until 2006. |With that in mind, the property is spaced out over lovely grounds with palm trees and other tropical plants which are well maintained along nice paths. Many of the bungalows have seafronts with little private balconies. The beach by the hotel doesn't have great access to the sea but there is a lifeguard pointing you in the right direction every day. The sunsets are stunning from this location as are seeing the thunderstorms roll up. Every night you can see a line of twinkly lights, indicating fishing boats. The sea is a bit rough on this side of the island but still perfectly swimmable for a refresh after a hot day sightseeing.|The breakfast is served every morning in the restaurant and has a great combo of both Asian and Western dishes and there is a cook on standby who will cook your eggs and/or pancakes anyway you like. There are tables which look out over the sea or across the swimming pool. Both the seafront and the pool are cleaned everyday by a raft of staff. |The reception staff are very welcoming and speak good English and for anything more complicated there are plenty of translation apps to help you. |We hired cushions for our sunbeds at less than £3 a day. We also frequently dipped into the minibar where beers weren't even a £1 and wine was only £15 (its imported from Australia hence slightly more expensive). The laundry service we also used often as we needed to get changed frequently being absolutely not used to the heat and humidity (coming from England, I think we can be forgiven). The cleaning ladies seemed to take great pride in their work and managed to turn our room back into a palace every day, we felt very well looked after. Everywhere in the grounds there is free WiFi but we also bought a sim for only a couple of pounds for the entirety of our stay. |The air-conditioning in the room was an absolute delight! The beds are huge and comfortable, there are chairs and a desk in the room as well as a large wardrobe. The hotel provides dressing gowns and crocks which can be used around the grounds and brollies can be taken around town (during rainy periods you will see many hotel brollies represented around town). The TV isn't great, but who comes on holiday to watch the telly anyway? The resort is perfectly placed between hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants and of course the nightmarket. The John's Tours Office is also close by. There are always taxis by the hotel ready to take you anywhere. It helps if you've got a screenshot on your phone to show the taxi driver where you'd like to go. Virtually all taxis provide complimentary water and all drivers use translation apps to converse with you, amid much hilarity. Most taxi drivers will offer their services whilst you are on the island and are also happy to be a tour guide. The taxis are incredibly cheap we paid about £6 for 30 mins in the taxi but often fares are less than a pound for shorter journeys. Most taxi drivers can/will freely suggest places for you to visit and all are happy to wait for you, without additional charge, and take you to the next stop. |During the evening and night you will see little lizards around your room on the walls. They don't make a noise, come nowhere near you, dont make a mess and help to keep mosquitoes down (hardly any around the resort). We named ours Lex the lizard only to find that there was more than one after a few days. |Lastly, there are ladies who walk past the seafront twice a day to offer massages. I'd recommend that you get one; I felt my bones and muscles crackle and pop and felt totally rejuvenated after. Don't be surprised if you are also offered a pedicure and for your bikiniline and underarms to be done, on the beach, in view of everyone. But no-one bats an eyelid.|Lastly, the hotel restaurant is also open and offers both local Asian and Western dishes at reasonable prices. |As I've said at the start, we've loved every minute of our stay here and found all staff to be extremely friendly and helpful, regardless of any language barriers. We could absolutely not fault the extremely high level of...
